Run /locate structure minecraft:stronghold to find the nearest stronghold and get its coordinates. Then use /teleport <player> <x> <y> <z> with those coordinates to travel there. You need command access in your world; in Bedrock, cheats and Game Director permission are required for /locate.

Find the nearest stronghold

  1. Open chat or the command interface and enter /locate structure minecraft:stronghold.
  2. Read the coordinates returned by the command. Minecraft’s official guide uses this exact command as its example for finding the nearest stronghold: How to Use Commands in Minecraft.

Teleport to the coordinates

Enter /teleport <your-player-name> <x> <y> <z>, replacing the placeholders with your player name and the coordinates from /locate. The official guide documents /teleport [target player] <destination> and explains that it moves a player to a specified location. Some contexts also accept the shorter alias /tp.

Command access by edition

Java Edition

In a single-player world, commands must be enabled. Minecraft’s guide describes enabling them when creating a world.

Bedrock Edition

The Bedrock syntax is /locate structure <structure> [useNewChunksOnly]; minecraft:stronghold is a supported structure, and the optional Boolean argument defaults to false. The search is in the current dimension. The command requires cheats and Game Director permission. See Microsoft’s Bedrock /locate command reference. In a Bedrock single-player world, Minecraft’s guide says to use the “Allow Cheats” setting.

If the command is rejected

  • Check that commands are enabled for your world or that “Allow Cheats” is on in Bedrock single-player.
  • In Bedrock, confirm that you have the required Game Director permission.
  • In multiplayer, access depends on the permissions granted in that world or server.
