Roblox does not publish one fixed punishment for every scam. Its moderation guidance describes a range of platform actions, from warnings and content removal up to account-level restrictions, and the outcome depends on how severe the conduct is, how much harm it caused, and whether the user has broken the rules before. A few specific behaviors carry stated consequences, including account deletion in some cases, but those are the exception rather than a universal rule. The penalty described here is a Roblox platform sanction, not a criminal sentence.
How Roblox decides what action to take
Roblox’s “Content Moderation on Roblox” article says that for a content-based Community Standards violation, the company acts “depending on the severity and impact” of the violation, with actions “ranging from warnings, content removal, or Roblox account-level restrictions.” The same overview says repeated violations can increase the consequences. The factors Roblox names are therefore:
- Type of conduct. A fake offer, an off-platform deal, theft, and other behavior are handled differently.
- Severity and impact. How much harm the behavior caused to other players matters.
- Account history. Prior or repeated violations can push an outcome toward the more serious end.
- Type of action. A warning, content removal, an account restriction, suspension, or deletion are different steps on the same process, not a fixed ladder every case climbs.
Because Roblox does not publish a fixed suspension length for each scam category, it is not possible to say in advance how long a particular restriction would last.
What the stated consequences are, by type of conduct
The table below separates conduct where Roblox has written a specific consequence from conduct where it has only described a general range. “Not stated” means Roblox’s published guidance does not set a specific sanction for that behavior.

#1 Best Overall
| Conduct | What Roblox states | Stated consequence | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fake free-Robux or subscription offers (generators, “free” offers from a person, video, website, or game) | Described as a scam and a violation of the Terms of Use | Making false purchase claims to obtain these offers could result in account deletion. Otherwise, the general action range applies; a specific sanction is not stated. | “Free Robux or Subscription Generators” help article, Roblox Support (publication date not stated) |
| Theft of accounts, items, or currency | Described as a severe Terms of Use violation | Accounts involved in theft will be deleted. | “My account was hacked – What do I do?” help article, Roblox Support (publication date not stated) |
| Off-platform trades or deals made outside Roblox’s Trade and Sell features | Roblox says it cannot protect deals made outside those features | Not stated as a specific sanction. Roblox’s protection is limited, not a penalty on the other party. | “How to avoid trading scams,” Roblox Support (publication date not stated) |
| Other scam messages, links, experiences, or players | Handled through Report Abuse and Roblox’s moderation process | Not stated as a specific sanction. Outcomes fall within the general range: warning, content removal, or account restriction. | “Content Moderation on Roblox,” Roblox Support |
Theft of accounts and items
Roblox treats theft more severely than most other scam behavior. Its hacked-account guidance says stealing accounts, items, or currency is a severe violation, and that accounts involved in theft will be deleted. This is the clearest specific sanction in Roblox’s published material. The deletion applies to accounts that are shown to be involved in theft; it is not described as a penalty for merely being reported.
What Roblox says about outside law
The word “punishment” can also mean a criminal penalty. Roblox’s moderation overview lists platform actions, and says a user may be referred to relevant authorities where there is an imminent risk of harm. It does not set out criminal charges or sentences for scamming. Whether fraud or theft is a crime, and what the penalty would be, depends on the country or state involved and the specific facts. A Roblox ban does not by itself create a criminal case, and a criminal case does not automatically result in a Roblox sanction.
If you have been scammed on Roblox
- Stop engaging with the scammer. Do not send more Robux, items, or account details, even if you are told the problem can be fixed.
- Report it. Use Report Abuse for the message, link, experience, or player involved. Reporting is how Roblox learns about the behavior and can act on it.
- If your account may be compromised, contact Roblox Support promptly. Roblox’s hacked-account guidance advises contacting support as soon as possible.
- Set your expectations about recovery. Roblox does not guarantee restoration of a hacked account or recovery of lost virtual items or currency. It describes limited circumstances where it may be able to assist.
- Secure the account. Turn on 2-Step Verification and change your password.
How to avoid scams before they happen
- Keep trades inside Roblox. Use the official Trade and Sell features. Roblox says it cannot protect deals made outside them.
- Use the Trade Quality Filter with care. It can hide offers Roblox considers unfair or one-sided, but no filter catches every bad deal, so check every offer yourself.
- Never share credentials. Do not give out your password, browser cookies, 2-Step Verification codes, or backup codes. Roblox recommends 2-Step Verification.
- Ignore free-currency promises. Roblox states that a person, video, website, or game promising free Robux or subscriptions through a generator is running a scam.
If Roblox has moderated your account
If you believe a moderation action was applied in error, follow the appeal route described in the notice you received. For appeals submitted through the support form, Roblox’s “Appeal Your Content or Account Moderation” guidance sets a 30-day window from the moderation action. That deadline applies to support-form appeals, so check the notice for any other route. Roblox reviews eligible appeals, but an appeal does not guarantee the consequence will be removed.

- Roblox’s published guidance confirms a range of platform actions, a severity-based approach, and specific consequences for theft and for false purchase claims tied to fake free-Robux offers.
- It does not publish a fixed sanction for every scam type, a fixed suspension duration for each category, or a criminal penalty.
- Roblox’s moderation information was checked as of October 2026, and its policies can change. Read the current Community Standards, Terms of Use, and help articles before relying on any specific outcome.
Roblox’s own wording is the most reliable guide: a violation is judged on severity and impact, and history matters. Outcomes are not predictable from the scam type alone.
