Fortnite does not use one fixed Push to Talk key or button for every player. The control is whatever is assigned in your own settings, and Epic Games’ current support guidance does not name a universal binding. If you cannot find an assignment, Epic has a known-issue notice saying the Push to Talk option may be missing from Controller Mapping while it is investigated.
Why there is no single default Push to Talk key
Push to Talk is a voice control, and its binding depends on how your controls are set up. Epic’s support articles tell players to check whether they are using Push to Talk, but they do not list a keyboard key or controller button that works for everyone. A binding that works on one PC or console may not appear on another, so do not assume a key from a friend’s setup or a video applies to yours.

Party Chat and Game Chat are different channels
Fortnite offers two voice channels. Party Chat connects the people in your party. Game Chat connects players within a supported game context. Push to Talk works within whichever channel is active, so before you troubleshoot a control, confirm you are in the channel you intend to use. Epic’s party, voice and text chat guidance covers how to manage these options.
How to find your Push to Talk assignment
Epic’s interface labels can change between updates, so the goal is to locate the voice control in your controls or mapping area rather than follow a fixed menu path.

- Open Fortnite’s settings menu and go to the controls or key mapping area for your input device.
- Look for a voice or communication entry and find the option labelled Push to Talk.
- Note the control currently assigned to it. If the entry is blank or shows no binding, the assignment has not been made or is not available on your setup.
- If you want a different control, reassign it in the same area, then test by speaking into your microphone while holding the key or button.
Known issue: Push to Talk missing from Controller Mapping
Epic’s support notice titled “Push to Talk option not available in Controller Mapping in Fortnite” says the option may be unavailable in that menu and that the issue is being investigated. The notice does not give a resolution date or say which platforms are affected. If you cannot find the option in Controller Mapping, check Epic’s support and status updates for changes rather than assuming your settings are at fault.
If pressing the assigned control does not transmit voice
When the binding is correct but no voice is sent, work through these checks in order:

- Confirm voice chat is enabled in Fortnite’s settings.
- Confirm you are in the intended Party Chat or Game Chat channel.
- Check that your platform’s communication and parental settings allow voice chat for your account.
- On PC, check the selected sound and input devices in Fortnite, and confirm Windows or your system has granted the game microphone permission.
- Test the same microphone in another app to rule out a hardware fault.
