The exact EXP figure is not settled: published guides give different numbers, so treat any single value as a reference point rather than a fixed payout.
What the Reaper pays out
The Reaper’s main reward is experience. Guides describe the EXP gain as substantial, and the yen reward is smaller. The figures that appear in the consulted references are listed below, with the date and version context each one carries.
| Reference | Date listed | EXP | Yen | Item noted |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Megami Tensei Wiki, “Gameplay: The Reaper” | 2026 | 65,500 | 3,570 | Drop table lists Divine Pillar |
| Persona 5 Royal Guide, “Reaper Tutorial” | Not stated | 72,050 | Not stated | Item reward listed |
| Samurai Gamers, “Reaper Persona Guide (Experience Farming)” | Not stated | Described as massive; no fixed figure | Not stated | Divine Pillar |
The Megami Tensei Wiki page is the only consulted reference that gives a yen figure. None of the references explains why the EXP numbers differ, and none ties the gap to a specific difficulty setting or modifier. Until a figure is confirmed on your own copy, “a large EXP gain and some yen” is the accurate answer.
Divine Pillar: a possible drop, not a guaranteed one
Guides list Divine Pillar as a Reaper drop. It is an accessory with a trade-off built into its effect:

The consulted gameplay guides present it as a possible reward. Do not plan a build around getting it from a single fight.
The Royal trophy: “Unsurpassed Rebel”
Defeating the Reaper is tied to a trophy in Persona 5 Royal. The PlayStation trophy listing on Exophase names it “Unsurpassed Rebel” and describes it as “Conquered the Reaper.” Samurai Gamers uses the name “A Unique Rebel,” which does not match the Royal listing. If you are checking your trophy list, search for “Unsurpassed Rebel” in the Royal entry.

Why the original game’s flu-season tactic does not work in Royal
Players of the original Persona 5 often used flu season to weaken the Reaper through Despair. That approach does not carry over. A community guide by HayateButler, updated October 6, 2024, puts it this way:
“in Persona 5 Royal, he can no longer be afflicted by Despair, so you’ll need to defeat him with your own abilities now.”

Checking the payout for your own copy
- Match the guide to your version. Check whether it is about the original Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal before trusting its numbers or its strategy.
- Note the guide’s date. The Steam guide was updated October 6, 2024. The Persona 5 Royal Guide’s Reaper page gives no publication date.
- Compare your own result after the fight. Record the EXP and yen you receive, then use that figure instead of a published one if the two disagree.
