There isn’t one single “secret Cookie Clicker name.” The name Orteil triggers the “God complex” shadow achievement, while adding saysopensesame to a bakery name opens the Open Sesame debug panel in the web version. These are different Easter eggs, and the debug-name method does not work in Steam.
Which Cookie Clicker secret name do you mean?
Players use “secret name” to mean at least two different things: a name that triggers an achievement Easter egg, or a phrase that opens a debug panel. The correct name depends on which effect you want.

How to get the “God complex” achievement
- Open the bakery-name control in Cookie Clicker.
- Set your bakery name to Orteil—spelled O-r-t-e-i-l.
- Confirm the name. The game awards the “God complex” shadow achievement and applies a 1% CpS penalty for as long as you keep that name.
Changing the name back removes the ongoing name-related CpS penalty. Do not confuse Orteil with Ortiel: the latter is a different spelling, carries a 2% CpS penalty, and does not award “God complex.” The Cookie Clicker Wiki documents these name effects in its shadow achievement reference and FAQ.
How to open the Open Sesame debug panel
- In the web/browser version, open the bakery-name control.
- Append saysopensesame to your current bakery name. For example, a bakery named “My Bakery” would use “My Bakerysaysopensesame.”
- Confirm the name. The Open Sesame panel should appear.
This is a debug feature rather than an achievement name. The Cookie Clicker Wiki’s Open Sesame page says the bakery-name method does not work in the Steam edition. The web game is available through the official Cookie Clicker page.

Is “Big Cookie” the secret name?
“Big Cookie” appears as an answer in one secondary article with this exact topic title, but the official game page and the game-reference pages cited above do not corroborate it as a secret Cookie Clicker name. Treat it as an unverified claim, not the confirmed answer. The better-supported name Easter eggs are Orteil and saysopensesame.

Which one should you use?
- For the “God complex” achievement, use Orteil and account for its 1% CpS penalty while active.
- To open the debug panel, use saysopensesame at the end of your bakery name in the web/browser version.
- Do not use Ortiel as a substitute for Orteil; it has a different effect and does not unlock the achievement.
