Its progression is built around taking and completing player bounties, and it trades away much of the experience a character would normally earn from other activities. The unlock route and bounty mechanics below come from community-maintained wiki references and may not match the current live game, so confirm them in-game before you commit a character to the path.
What the origin means
An origin in Deepwoken shapes where a character begins: its starting allegiances, its equipment and the kind of progression it is built for. Voidwalker is the bounty-hunting option. According to community wiki pages, it binds the character to a contract with Eylis, places them with the Knives of Eylis, grants access to the Voidheart, and makes bounties a faster route to progress than most other activities.
The in-game origin description reads: “The contract is sealed, enlisting you into an otherworldly mercenary group, the Knives of Eylis. Despite the brutal training, it seems Eylis herself has a plan in mind for you.” The wiki attributes this text to the origin itself rather than to any named speaker.
How to unlock Voidwalker
Community wiki instructions describe a four-part sequence. Treat the thresholds and event timing as a checklist to verify, not a guarantee, because they are game mechanics that change with updates.

- Earn five player executions. According to the wiki, victories in Chime of Conflict count as half an execution, so ten Chime of Conflict victories are equivalent to five executions.
- Speak to Eiris during a Knives of Eylis versus Etrea sea event. The wiki places this step inside the sea event, not at a fixed location outside it.
- Enter the Subtle Knife of Eylis time-slowing bubble to reach the Voidheart. This is the route into the origin’s hub.
- Speak with Eylis to obtain the origin.
Because the execution threshold and event sequence are the parts most likely to have changed since these wiki pages were written, check the current requirements in the live game before following them step by step.
How the bounty loop plays
The origin’s core activity is choosing a bounty and tracking the target down. Bounty boards list the target’s name, aspect, oath and bounty stars. The wiki says rewards include loot and experience. For successful hunts, Voidwalkers gain additional bounty experience and Full Training points, and the amount scales with bounty stars. Experience from non-bounty activities is reduced.

Voideye and the Voidheart
Voideye is the tool Voidwalkers use to return to the Voidheart, which the wiki describes as a hub with amenities and access to bounty listings. Your bounty progress is therefore tied to repeatedly moving between the hub and the field.
Grasp of Eylis
Grasp of Eylis is used from the Voidheart to approach a selected target. A third-party talent reference likewise describes it as a Voidheart-only tool for teleporting to a bounty target, so you cannot use it to jump into a fight from anywhere in the world.

Ferocity and Stealth
Voidwalker hunts can be approached in two ways, as the wiki describes them. The table below summarises the reported differences; the wiki does not give exact numbers for either mode.

Benefits and trade-offs
Voidwalker suits players who want a progression loop built around player hunts, with the Voidheart as a home base and bounties as the main route to power. The drawbacks are real. Non-bounty experience is reduced, so a character that prefers events or exploration will progress more slowly. The wiki also reports hostile starting reputation with several factions, which can limit where you can go safely early on.

Choosing an origin is a long-term commitment. Community references state that an origin cannot be changed mid-progression and that switching requires wiping the character. Confirm that rule in the live game before you start, since it is the kind of policy that can change between updates.

Pick Voidwalker if you want the bounty loop as your main activity and are comfortable with player encounters and slower non-bounty progress. If you mainly want to explore, complete events or avoid early faction hostility, a different origin will fit better.

Before committing, confirm the unlock steps, the bounty rewards and the origin-change rule in the current game, since all of these are documented by community wiki pages rather than official patch notes.
