It has its own accounts, forums, client setup instructions, and realm choices; it is not the official WoW service. The operator describes the project in its Terms of Service as an imitation of outdated game versions for educational purposes.
How Warmane works
Players use a Warmane account to access one of its realms, each with its own rules and progression style. Warmane also maintains a website and community forums for account access, news, realm information, and support. The operator’s terms say it does not support distribution of game clients, while its download page provides instructions for setting up a client.
Warmane’s homepage publishes dated realm announcements, including 2026 Onyxia updates. Because realm content and phases can change, use the latest official announcement rather than assuming a particular phase is still live.
What the realms offer
Warmane’s FAQ describes four different realm approaches. Its rates page was originally posted in 2016, so treat the figures below as the FAQ’s documented descriptions, not guaranteed current settings; check Warmane’s current realm information before choosing.

How to get started
- Create a Warmane account. Use Warmane’s official site to register; the account is separate from other WoW accounts.
- Set up a compatible game client. Follow the instructions on Warmane’s download page.
- Launch the game client directly. Warmane instructs players to run
WoW.exe, notLauncher.exe. - Log in with your Warmane account name. The login instructions specify the account name rather than an email address.
- If using an existing client, set the realmlist. Warmane gives
set realmlist logon.warmane.comfor clients obtained elsewhere. Follow its current page carefully, as compatible client versions and setup details can matter.
If you get stuck connecting, Warmane’s FAQ recommends checking the homepage and news for service availability and provides client and network troubleshooting guidance. These are the operator’s instructions, not independently tested fixes.

Does Warmane cost money?
Warmane’s Terms of Service state, “Warmane provides free and unlimited access to the Site and the Services.” They describe donations as voluntary appreciation and state that Warmane assumes no financial obligation with respect to donations. The terms specify that donors must be at least 18 and say service access may be changed or terminated. Those statements do not establish the current contents or value of any shop items.

- Rates and rules: Consult current official realm information rather than relying on the older FAQ figures.
- Progression: For Onyxia, check the latest dated announcement to see which phase is active.
- Availability: Realm counters on the homepage are live snapshots, not stable or independently audited population statistics.
- Client setup: Use Warmane’s own download and setup instructions, and verify that your client matches the requirements it lists.
Warmane displayed counts of 6,456 for Onyxia, 5,384 for Lordaeron, 12,000 for Icecrown, and 1,324 for Blackrock when its homepage was retrieved in 2026. These are time-specific site counters, not enduring player-population figures.
