Wildgate is a crew-based PvPvE shooter from Moonshot Games, a Dreamhaven studio. It pairs first-person combat with ship-to-ship battles and extraction-style objectives: crews race to claim an Artifact and escape through a Wildgate, or destroy every rival ship to win. It launched July 22, 2025, on Steam, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. A June 2026 report said ongoing development would end after the next major update, although the game was expected to remain playable with limited maintenance.

What is Wildgate?

Wildgate is a multiplayer shooter set in the Reach, a hostile region of space. Players are Prospectors who cooperate aboard a ship, explore for resources and upgrades, and fight other crews. Moonshot Games developed the game under publisher Dreamhaven. The studio describes it as a PvP shooter combining ship-to-ship combat with first-person action (Dreamhaven’s Wildgate page).

The “extraction shooter” label captures the race to secure an objective and escape, but Wildgate is not limited to a conventional loot-and-extract win. Crews can also win by eliminating all rival ships.

How does a Wildgate match work?

Queue solo or with friends; compete as a crew

Moonshot’s March 2025 gameplay explainer says players can queue alone or enter with a premade crew from the Lucky Docks lobby. A match brings together five crews of up to four players each, for a maximum of 20 players. Solo queue does not mean a solo match: players are placed into the crew-based match structure (Moonshot’s Xbox Wire gameplay explainer).

Scavenge, upgrade and survive the Reach

The Reach is procedurally generated, so its layout and hazards vary. The March 2025 explainer lists asteroids, storms, mines, rogue turrets and Reach Leeches among the threats. Crews pilot their shared ship, search wreckage and points of interest, gather upgrades, repair damage and fight other Prospectors. Players can also board enemy ships.

Ship duties create a mix of coordination and combat: players may pilot, operate weapons, fight fires, repair equipment, activate devices or defend against boarders. The preview described ships with different trade-offs, including the smaller, faster Hunter and Scout and the larger, more durable Bastion. These are details from the March 2025 gameplay description, not a guarantee that every design detail has remained unchanged.

Choose an Artifact escape or a ship-elimination victory

The central objective is the Artifact. A crew that secures it can carry it to an active Wildgate and escape, but doing so risks revealing its position to rivals. A crew can instead use the Artifact to draw opponents into a fight. There is also a separate domination path: destroy every rival ship. That mix makes the match a contest of timing and risk, not simply a race to collect loot and leave.

When did Wildgate launch, and on which platforms?

Wildgate released July 22, 2025. Dreamhaven announced that date on June 6, 2025, naming Steam, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 as the launch platforms. The announcement also scheduled an open beta for June 9–16, 2025; those dates are historical, not an upcoming test (Dreamhaven’s launch announcement). Steam’s listing records the July 22, 2025 release date (Wildgate on Steam).

Is Wildgate still getting updates?

As of a June 25, 2026 report by PC Gamer, Moonshot planned to end ongoing development after the game’s next major update. The report said Wildgate would remain purchasable and playable, with occasional fixes, balance work and small events planned, while player support and community management would be reduced. This is a dated support plan, not a guarantee of a specific patch schedule or indefinite service availability. Game director Dustin Browder told PC Gamer, “Wildgate hasn’t found a large enough audience to sustain ongoing development,” and added, “Wildgate is not going away.” The report also said no layoffs were planned and some staff would move to other projects (PC Gamer’s June 25, 2026 report).
