The March 27, 2025 trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond introduces Viewros through Samus’s exploration, scanning, combat, and newly acquired psychic abilities. It offers an early look at an unfamiliar alien world, not a full explanation of its history or the game’s plot. Nintendo’s later 2025 materials add that Samus is stranded there, that the planet was once home to the Lamorn, and that she must find a way home.
What does the March 2025 trailer show?
Shown during a Nintendo Direct on March 27, 2025, the trailer follows Samus exploring Viewros, investigating relics with her scanner, and fighting hostile alien creatures. It also introduces psychic abilities as part of the game’s exploration and combat. TechRadar’s contemporaneous coverage of the trailer described those scenes; Nintendo’s official game page also identifies scanning, alien combat, and psychic abilities as game features.

The trailer’s emphasis is on discovering how the environment works: Samus moves through an unfamiliar landscape, examines what she finds, and faces threats along the way. It is an introduction to the setting and mechanics rather than a comprehensive account of Viewros or the events that brought her there.

What is Viewros, and why is Samus there?
Viewros is the mysterious alien planet at the center of the game. Nintendo describes Samus as exploring it in search of a way home. The trailer establishes the planet as the setting, but Nintendo supplied more of the premise later: in its September 19, 2025 launch announcement, Nintendo said an unexpected accident transports Samus to Viewros, where she must survive and escape.

That later explanation provides context for the trailer without changing what the March footage itself establishes. The trailer does not explain the accident or resolve how Samus will get home.
What do the Lamorn ruins and psychic abilities add?
The Lamorn
Nintendo says the Lamorn are an ancient alien race that once inhabited Viewros. Their ruins and statues offer clues as Samus makes progress. The available official description does not provide a fuller account of the Lamorn’s history or their relationship to the planet’s present dangers.

Psychic abilities
Nintendo identifies psychic abilities as new powers Samus acquires while exploring Viewros, helping her clear a path forward. The March trailer shows these abilities in use, but it should not be treated as an exhaustive explanation of their rules or every way they affect play.

Sylux
Sylux is an antagonist and rival bounty hunter. Nintendo says his grudge is aimed at both the Galactic Federation and Samus. The official descriptions establish that conflict, but do not lay out his complete motives or the story’s outcome.

Vi-O-La is a technologically advanced bike Samus can use to cross the environment. Nintendo’s later materials include it among the equipment and abilities she relies on to survive Viewros and escape.
Which platforms is the game available on?
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launched on December 4, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo UK says the Switch 2 Edition supports mouse control using Joy-Con 2 controllers and offers enhanced visuals and performance. Those are the edition differences established in Nintendo’s published materials; they do not, by themselves, amount to an independent performance comparison.
