NVIDIA’s GeForce Hotfix Display Driver 591.67 was for a very specific set of problems: SDR gradient banding, Digital Vibrance settings that failed to apply, and an NVIDIA Control Panel notification-tray option that would not stay disabled. Released December 23, 2025 and based on Game Ready Driver 591.59, it was not a broad gaming-performance update. NVIDIA later carried the same fixes into 591.74 WHQL.
NVIDIA’s GeForce Hotfix Display Driver 591.67 was aimed at a very specific group of users: those who saw slight banding in SDR gradients, could not get Digital Vibrance settings to apply correctly, or could not disable the NVIDIA Control Panel notification-tray icon. It was not a general gaming-performance update.

Released on December 23, 2025, 591.67 was based on Game Ready Driver 591.59. NVIDIA later moved the same three fixes into the regular GeForce Game Ready Driver 591.74 WHQL, released January 5, 2026. That makes 591.67 mainly useful as a historical troubleshooting reference or as a short-term option for someone who was affected immediately after installing the 591.59 branch.

| Problem | What it looked like | What the hotfix did—and did not promise |
|---|---|---|
| SDR gradient banding | Slight visible stepping or striping in a color transition that should appear smooth. | Addressed a documented driver issue affecting SDR gradients. It was not a guarantee that every form of banding on every monitor would disappear. |
| Digital Vibrance not applying correctly | The selected NVIDIA Digital Vibrance value did not produce the expected color change. | Fixed cases where the NVIDIA color adjustment was not being applied as expected. It did not identify or resolve every monitor-profile, HDR, game, or Windows color-management problem. |
| NVIDIA Control Panel notification-tray setting | The “Show Notification Tray Icon” option could not be deselected or would not stay disabled. | Corrected that specific NVIDIA Control Panel behavior. It was a software-setting fix, not a hardware or display upgrade. |
These are the three documented fixes in NVIDIA’s hotfix record. The release notes do not support broader claims that 591.67 increased average FPS, fixed G-SYNC, solved all HDR or OLED issues, improved stability across every GeForce game, or eliminated all display problems.

591.67 was optional—and is no longer the normal recommendation
NVIDIA describes hotfix drivers as optional releases supplied as-is with less testing than a WHQL-certified driver. They can be useful when a known problem is actively affecting a user, but they are not automatically preferable to the next regular driver.
For this particular hotfix, the safer long-term path became available soon afterward: Game Ready Driver 591.74 WHQL incorporated the same three issue fixes into NVIDIA’s regular certified driver branch. NVIDIA’s later driver archive also lists newer WHQL packages, including version 610.74 dated July 7, 2026. As of August 12, 2026, 591.67 should therefore not be described as NVIDIA’s latest GeForce driver.
If your PC is already running a much newer driver and your display works normally, do not downgrade to 591.67 simply because an older article mentions it. Check the current NVIDIA driver branch for your exact GPU, Windows edition, notebook or desktop configuration, and any OEM-specific requirements first.
Who should have considered installing 591.67?
The strongest case was for a user who could reproduce one of the three listed problems after moving to the 591.59 driver branch:

- an SDR image showed the newly reported gradient stepping;
- changing Digital Vibrance in NVIDIA Control Panel did not affect the image as expected; or
- the NVIDIA Control Panel’s “Show Notification Tray Icon” setting could not be disabled.
For an affected user at the time of release, the hotfix offered a targeted way to test whether the 591.59 driver was responsible. For an unaffected user, waiting for the regular WHQL release was the more conservative choice. Today, a supported newer driver is generally more appropriate than seeking out the old 591.67 package.
How to troubleshoot the three issues before changing drivers
1. SDR gradient banding
Driver-related banding is only one possible explanation. Before assuming that 591.67—or any driver—will solve the problem, check the conditions in which the banding appears.
- Confirm that the display is in SDR. HDR-to-SDR conversion, an HDR desktop state, or a game’s own HDR implementation can change how gradients are rendered.
- Compare more than one source. Test the Windows desktop, a known smooth gradient, and more than one game or application. Banding limited to one title may be caused by that title’s renderer, post-processing, or color settings.
- Check the connection and output configuration. A cable or display-output limitation can affect available color formats and bit depth. This does not prove that the cable is defective, but it can help separate a transport or configuration issue from a driver bug.
- Check the monitor’s own picture settings. Excessive contrast, unusual gamma modes, display processing, or a low-quality preset can make steps in a gradient easier to see.
- Compare with another display or source if possible. If the same content bands on only one panel, the panel’s native limitations or internal processing may be involved.
The 591.67 release note supports a narrow driver-level fix for “slight banding on gradients in SDR color mode.” It does not establish that every report of banding has the same cause, nor that every monitor will produce a perfectly smooth gradient after updating.
2. Digital Vibrance does not apply
Digital Vibrance is NVIDIA’s display-color adjustment feature. The reported 591.67 issue occurred when the chosen setting did not apply correctly. To isolate that failure:

- Open NVIDIA Control Panel and locate the display color-adjustment controls.
- Change Digital Vibrance by a clearly visible amount, apply the setting, and check whether the desktop image changes.
- Test both the desktop and a game. A game may override desktop color settings with its own color, gamma, filter, or post-processing controls.
- Check whether Windows HDR is enabled. HDR mode can alter how SDR desktop content and driver color adjustments are presented.
- Check the monitor’s picture mode and any installed ICC or color profile. A monitor profile or display-management utility can affect the final appearance even when the NVIDIA setting itself is working.
If the control changes the desktop but not a particular game, the game or its rendering path is a more likely place to investigate. If it does not change the desktop at all and the problem began with the 591.59 branch, the documented driver issue becomes a more plausible explanation.
3. The notification-tray icon cannot be disabled
The relevant setting is NVIDIA Control Panel’s “Show Notification Tray Icon” option. The 591.67 fix addressed the specific case in which that option could not be deselected. This problem does not call for a new GPU, monitor, cable, or other accessory; it calls for an appropriate NVIDIA driver and Control Panel update.
If the setting remains present after updating, verify that the change was applied and that the NVIDIA Control Panel installation matches the active display driver. Other startup or notification software may also place icons in the Windows notification area, so not every NVIDIA-looking tray item is necessarily controlled by this setting.

| Your situation | Practical choice |
|---|---|
| You are researching the original December 2025 fix. | 591.67 was the targeted hotfix, based on 591.59, and addressed the three listed issues. |
| You experienced one of the issues and are still on an old driver branch. | Prefer a current supported driver for your exact GPU and Windows setup. Driver 591.74 WHQL carried the same fixes into the certified branch. |
| You are already on a newer driver and have no related symptoms. | Stay on the working newer driver rather than downgrading to 591.67. |
| You have a notebook or OEM-built PC. | Check the exact NVIDIA package and the computer manufacturer’s compatibility guidance before installing. Notebook support can differ from desktop reference-driver support. |
| You have a different display problem, such as general HDR failure, G-SYNC problems, or poor game performance. | Do not assume 591.67 addresses it. None of those broader fixes is established by the documented change list. |
Before installing any driver, verify the exact GPU generation, Windows edition, notebook or desktop status, and package type on NVIDIA’s current driver page. The available hotfix record confirms the three fixes but does not provide a complete hardware and operating-system compatibility block for every configuration. That information should be checked on the specific download page rather than inferred from the version number alone.

What 591.67 did not fix
There is no source-supported basis for presenting this release as a universal gaming display update. In particular, NVIDIA’s listed changes do not establish fixes for:
- average FPS or overall gaming performance;
- all game crashes or driver stability problems;
- G-SYNC behavior;
- every HDR, OLED, or color-management issue;
- every type of gradient banding;
- monitor-panel limitations or defective hardware; or
- compatibility with every monitor, cable, GPU, Windows build, or OEM system.
That distinction matters because a display symptom can have several layers: the game engine, Windows’ color pipeline, HDR or SDR conversion, the GPU driver, the cable and output mode, the monitor’s firmware and processing, and the panel itself. A hotfix aimed at one layer cannot be treated as a diagnosis for all of them.
The bottom line on NVIDIA’s 591.67 hotfix
GeForce Hotfix Display Driver 591.67 was a narrowly scoped December 23, 2025 release for three problems introduced or exposed in the 591.59 driver line: slight SDR gradient banding, Digital Vibrance values failing to apply correctly, and an NVIDIA Control Panel notification-tray setting that would not stay disabled.
It was useful for affected users at the time, but it was optional and had abbreviated QA compared with WHQL releases. NVIDIA later included all three fixes in Game Ready Driver 591.74 WHQL on January 5, 2026. Users who are troubleshooting the issue now should normally investigate their current driver and configuration first, and should not install or downgrade to 591.67 unless there is a specific, well-understood compatibility reason to do so.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did NVIDIA driver 591.67 improve gaming performance?
No. The documented release notes list three targeted fixes: slight SDR gradient banding, Digital Vibrance settings not applying correctly, and the inability to deselect the NVIDIA Control Panel notification-tray icon. They do not claim an FPS increase or a general gaming-performance improvement.
Should I still install GeForce hotfix driver 591.67?
Usually not. NVIDIA later included the same three fixes in Game Ready Driver 591.74 WHQL, and newer driver releases followed. If your system is already working on a newer driver, downgrading to 591.67 is generally unnecessary.
Will driver 591.67 eliminate all monitor gradient banding?
Not necessarily. Banding can also result from the monitor panel, display settings, HDR-to-SDR conversion, application rendering, cable or output configuration, and Windows color management. The hotfix addressed a specific driver-related SDR gradient issue, not every possible cause of banding.

What replaced NVIDIA’s 591.67 hotfix?
591.74 WHQL is the regular certified driver that later incorporated the same three fixes from 591.67. As of August 12, 2026, NVIDIA’s archive also listed newer WHQL releases, so users should check the current driver for their exact GPU and Windows configuration.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: NVIDIA 591.67 fixed three specific display and Control Panel bugs—not general gaming performance. Its fixes were later included in WHQL driver 591.74, so most users should use a current driver rather than hunt for the old hotfix.
