Square Enix lists targets ranging from 1080p at 30 FPS on Low to 1080p at 60 FPS on Medium; its claims of up to 4K and 120 FPS apply to top-spec PCs, not every computer. The game launched on PC on January 23, 2025, and is Steam Deck Verified.
What does the PC version add?
Square Enix announced the Windows release for January 23, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Its PC feature set includes adjustable graphics, support for DLSS and variable refresh rate (VRR), and flexible controls. The launch announcement also describes improved lighting and optional higher polygon and texture density compared with the PS5 version. Square Enix’s announcement and PC launch notice describe the features; they are not independent performance tests.

Graphics settings and image quality
The official FAQ provides three default graphics presets and allows further customization. Players can adjust the level of detail (LoD) for background models and MIP maps for background textures, which affect how detailed those assets appear. Square Enix also says it adjusted lighting for the PC release. These options let players tune visual detail to their system rather than treating one preset as universal. The official PC FAQ does not establish how a particular setting will perform on a particular PC.
DLSS and variable refresh rate
On compatible hardware, NVIDIA DLSS can upscale the rendered image and help improve frame rates. Square Enix says DLSS can allow the game to run at up to 120 FPS in high-spec PC environments; that is a conditional capability, not a typical or guaranteed result. VRR, where supported by the hardware and display, is intended to smooth gameplay by synchronizing the display’s refresh behavior with the game. Neither feature is a requirement for playing the game.

Controls and audio-visual feedback
The PC version supports DualSense controllers as well as keyboard and mouse. Square Enix says DualSense support includes the same controls and immersive haptic feedback as on PS5. Controls can be customized for exploration, combat, and mini-games, so players can remap inputs to suit their preferred device.
What PC performance does Square Enix target?
Square Enix publishes minimum and recommended specifications with target resolutions and frame rates. These are the publisher’s targets, not independently verified benchmark results. Compare the whole tier—including operating system, processor, graphics card, memory, and storage—rather than using one GPU or headline frame-rate figure as a guarantee.

Square Enix recommends a graphics card with at least 12 GB of memory when using a 4K monitor. The FAQ’s Ultra tier begins with a target of 60 FPS at 2160p, but the available published details here do not establish its complete hardware list. Separately, the PC launch notice says up to 4K resolution and 120 FPS are supported on top-spec PCs. Those statements describe different targets and do not promise that every system with a 4K display can reach either figure.
Is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth playable on Steam Deck?
Yes. Square Enix’s launch notice calls the game “Steam Deck Verified for an optimized handheld experience.” The timeline matters: the initial PC announcement said Steam Deck playability was planned, while the later launch notice confirmed Verified status. The badge confirms a compatibility designation; Square Enix’s cited notice does not give a Steam Deck frame-rate target or battery-life estimate.

What changed in the PC updates?
Square Enix’s update notice, last updated March 5, 2025, records several PC-relevant changes. These are dated notes and should not be read as a claim about the latest available patch.
- Version 1.001: Corrected an issue with the Steam Deck preset on first launch and set DLSS as the default anti-aliasing method on PCs that support it.
- Version 1.003: Included stability improvements, a crash fix for some PCs using certain AMD Radeon products, and a reduced Steam Deck download package.

How should you decide if your PC is a good fit?
- Check your system against the full requirements tier. Pay attention to the listed CPU, GPU, Windows version, memory, and SSD space, not just whether your graphics card has a familiar product name.
- Set expectations by the target you want. Minimum is a 1080p, Low, 30 FPS target; recommended is a 1080p, Medium, 60 FPS target. Neither is a guarantee for every configuration.
- Treat high-end options as hardware-dependent. DLSS, VRR, higher detail settings, and the top-end 4K/120 FPS claim depend on compatible components and settings.
- Choose input based on preference. DualSense and keyboard/mouse are both supported, with control rebinding available.
- For portable PC play, use the Deck designation narrowly. Verified status supports compatibility, but does not by itself establish a particular frame rate or time away from a charger.
