PlayStation’s Tokyo Game Show 2024 appearance was a booth at Makuhari Messe featuring playable PS5 games, scheduled stage events, video content and a free-to-view display of hardware and peripherals marking the brand’s 30th anniversary. Sony highlighted Astro Bot and Monster Hunter Wilds; the published program also included a separate Death Stranding 2 special stage. The event ran September 26–29, 2024, so its confirmed schedule and reported results—not preview speculation—are the useful guide to what happened.
When and where did PlayStation appear?
Tokyo Game Show 2024 took place September 26–29 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. September 26 and 27 were business days, followed by public days on September 28 and 29. On August 23, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced it would exhibit a PlayStation booth at the show. CESA’s event dates and Sony’s announcement establish the event context and the booth plan.
Sony said the booth would center on Astro Bot, which was scheduled to release September 6, 2024, and Capcom’s then-upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds, planned for 2025 when Sony made its announcement. Those are historical schedule details from 2024, not current release-date guidance.
What could visitors play?
Sony’s September 27 recap said visitors could try Astro Bot and Monster Hunter Wilds, along with other recent titles. The recap described the Monster Hunter Wilds trial at the PlayStation and Capcom booths together: more than 150 trial stations in total, which Sony called the largest setup in the series at the time. That figure belongs to the combined two-booth arrangement, not PlayStation’s booth alone. Sony’s lineup recap names games and publishers.

The published lineup ranged across first-party and third-party games. Among the named titles were Astro Bot from Sony Interactive Entertainment and Monster Hunter Wilds from Capcom. Other games in the recap included titles from Konami, Sega, Atlus and Bandai Namco Entertainment. The schedule presented these as games to try at the booth; it should not be read as confirmation of a separate Sony announcement event.
What was on the stage schedule?
Sony’s booth schedule included game-focused segments across the show’s business and public days. It listed Astro Bot and an indie-game segment on September 26; Silent Hill 2, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO and Metaphor: ReFantazio on September 28; and Monster Hunter Wilds and Dynasty Warriors: Origins on September 29. The PlayStation schedule said booth stages were intended for official PlayStation YouTube livestreams and archives. The official stage schedule also listed a separate PlayStation Presents: Death Stranding 2 Special Stage at the TGS event stage, with a Kojima Productions channel listing as well.

The confirmed program establishes scheduled booth segments and the Death Stranding 2 special stage. It does not establish that Sony planned a standalone PlayStation Showcase. Speculation about PS5 Pro, surprise announcements or other unrevealed games should not be treated as confirmed programming.
What was the 30th-anniversary display?
Beside the booth, Sony installed a display of PlayStation hardware and peripherals for the brand’s 30th anniversary. PlayStation.Blog’s schedule said the exhibit could be viewed freely without an admission reservation. It was a historical display alongside the game activities, rather than a separate game announcement. PlayStation.Blog’s schedule provides the details.

How large was TGS 2024?
CESA’s 2024 event release reported 985 exhibiting companies and organizations from 44 countries and regions, 3,252 exhibition booths and 2,850 exhibited game titles. In its September 29 flash report, CESA counted 274,739 in-person visitors over the four days and described that as the second-highest attendance record in TGS history. The organizer’s release used the theme “Trailblaze the World with Gaming”. CESA’s event figures and its event release provide the attributed totals and wording.

- Virtual TGS Digital World visitors: CESA reported 117,090 visitors from September 20 through October 6, 2024, with an average stay of approximately 77 minutes. This is virtual-venue data, not attendance at Makuhari Messe.
