Sony’s headline reveal was a limited PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection: PS5 hardware and accessories styled in the original PlayStation’s gray palette. The September 2024 plans also included a free Gran Turismo experience, classic-game soundtracks, community events and esports. Later additions included a personalized Wrap-Up, a memory-sharing campaign and a PlayStation history book.
What was in the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection?
Sony introduced the collection on September 19, 2024, applying colors inspired by the original PlayStation to current hardware. The original console launched on December 3, 1994. Sony described the editions as highly limited. The collection was announced for release on November 21, 2024. Sony’s announcement listed these products:

Sony said the 12,300-unit PS5 Pro quantity represented the month and day of the first PlayStation’s launch. That number applies to the Pro bundle, not to every item in the collection.
How the original preorders worked
These are historical 2024 purchase details, not a report on current stock. Sony said preorders opened September 26 through PlayStation Direct in supported regions, or through participating retailers elsewhere. The supported Direct regions were the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Austria. The PS5 Digital Edition bundle’s participating-retailer preorder date was October 10, 2024.

What else did Sony plan for the anniversary?
A September 5, 2024 announcement described a broader celebration beyond the hardware. Sony’s slate included a Gran Turismo experience, digital music releases, physical play products, a no-PlayStation-Plus multiplayer weekend and esports tournaments. My First Gran Turismo
Sony announced a free trial-style Gran Turismo experience for PS5 and PS4. It later arrived on both consoles on December 6, 2024; details are below.

Classic PlayStation soundtracks
Sony planned monthly digital soundtrack releases from October 2024 through January 2025 in collaboration with Sony Music. The named franchises were God of War, God of War II, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Twisted Metal, Starhawk and Unit 13. Sony said the music would be available on Spotify and for purchase through digital music stores and participating music retailers. That was the release plan at the time, not confirmation of current streaming or retail availability.
Shapes of Play
Sony announced three physical products under the Shapes of Play name: Battle, a four-in-a-row board game; Create, magnetic blocks; and Recharge, described as a way to recharge between games. The announced launch was December 2024 through direct.playstation.com in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Benelux. Current availability is not established by that announcement.

Free online multiplayer weekend and esports
For September 21–22, 2024, Sony planned a free online multiplayer weekend for PS5 and PS4 games with online modes, without a PlayStation Plus membership requirement during those two days. Account and internet requirements applied. The event is over.
Sony’s esports schedule for that weekend named NBA 2K24, NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 24, MLB The Show 24, EA UFC 5, Tekken 8 and Guilty Gear Strive.

What happened after the September 2024 announcements?
My First Gran Turismo launched in December 2024
Sony announced the release on December 4 and made My First Gran Turismo available on PS5 and PS4 from December 6, 2024. The free-to-play experience was presented as an invitation to the series. Sony listed three race events, three time trials, three Music Rally stages, license tests and 18 cars; it also said the PS5 version supported PlayStation VR2. 2024 Wrap-Up
The personalized 2024 Wrap-Up experience ran from December 10, 2024, through January 10, 2025. It showed information such as players’ most-played games, monthly stats and gaming style. Completing it could unlock a 30th-anniversary-inspired avatar and a PlayStation Stars digital collectible. Sony’s post set account, age, playtime and system-data consent conditions, so this should be understood as a past, time-limited campaign—not a currently claimable reward. Sony’s Wrap-Up announcement outlined the eligibility conditions.

30th Memories
In September 2025, Sony invited players to post PlayStation photos or videos on X or Instagram using #PlayStation30Memories by September 23. Selected memories were to appear in a highlight reel. The campaign terms said submissions could be used and edited as part of the campaign; the submission window has passed. Sony’s campaign post includes its terms.
PlayStation: The First 30 Years
On September 29, 2025, Sony announced PlayStation: The First 30 Years, a large-format, 400-page photography book featuring prototypes, concept sketches and design models. Sony planned publication for spring 2026. The announcement establishes the planned book and its contents, but not its current price or stock. Sony’s book announcement is the source for those details.
