The flashlight is in Wood Side Apartments in both versions of Silent Hill 2, but the room number changed: look in Apartment 202 in the 2024 remake or room 205 in the 2001 original.
Flashlight location in the 2024 remake
In the 2024 remake, go to the second floor of Wood Side Apartments and enter Apartment 202. The apartment’s open door and bright corridor light make it stand out. Inside, take the flashlight from the dress form. A Chute Courtyard Key is in the drawer directly behind the form; it is a separate item, not the flashlight. Silent Hill Memories’ remake walkthrough gives this location, which is also covered by Game8’s Wood Side Apartments guide.

Flashlight location in the 2001 original
In the original Silent Hill 2, go to room 205 on the second floor of Wood Side Apartments. The flashlight is on a fashion dummy dressed in Mary’s clothes, according to the original game’s item list. The original Wood Side Apartments walkthrough covers the floor’s light-source sequence.
Why guides give different room numbers
Room 202 is the answer for the 2024 remake; room 205 is the answer for the 2001 original. Check which version you are playing before following a walkthrough, since using the other version’s room number can send you to the wrong apartment. These locations are established for those two versions; they should not be assumed to cover every port, re-release, or modified edition.
