1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsValve’s Verified labels tell you how a game is expected to work on a specific Steam device, especially how much setup it needs to play well out of the box. A Steam Deck rating applies to both LCD and OLED models, but it is not a blanket rating for Steam Machine or Steam Frame. On Steam Frame, “Standalone Verified” refers to games running on the headset itself—not games streamed from a PC.
What the Steam Deck ratings mean
Valve’s Steam Deck Verified page describes four compatibility categories. They indicate current expected functionality, not whether a game is good or whether every player will enjoy it.

- Verified: Valve says, “The game works great on Steam Deck, right out of the box.” The game meets Valve’s criteria for a smooth experience without extra setup.
- Playable: The game works, but may require manual adjustments. Valve’s examples include selecting a community controller layout or using the touchscreen to navigate a launcher.
- Unsupported: Valve currently considers the game nonfunctional on Steam Deck. This describes its present compatibility status, not how it will work after a future game or platform update.
- Unknown: Valve has not yet checked the game. It does not mean the game is known to fail.
What Verified checks
Valve assesses four areas for the Deck Verified mark:
Recommended Free Tools
- Input: The game supports the Deck’s controller, uses appropriate controller icons, and brings up the on-screen keyboard automatically when needed.
- Display: It supports the Deck’s default 1280×800 or 1280×720 resolution, uses appropriate default settings, and presents legible text.
- Seamlessness: It does not show compatibility warnings, and any launcher can be navigated with a controller.
- System support: If the game uses Proton, the game and its middleware—including anti-cheat where applicable—must work with Proton.
Do Deck ratings apply to LCD and OLED models?
Yes. Valve says Deck compatibility ratings apply to both the LCD and OLED Steam Deck models. The rating is still a device-compatibility assessment, not a permanent guarantee: Valve says its review process is ongoing as games, updates and the Deck change. Check the game’s current Steam store or library details before relying on an older rating.

How Steam Machine and Steam Frame fit into Verified
In a Steamworks announcement published June 4, 2026, Valve said it expanded the Verified program to Steam Machine and Steam Frame. The goal is to help customers understand the out-of-box experience and how smoothly a game runs without extra configuration. A rating’s device context matters: a Deck label should not be treated as a Machine or Frame rating.
Steam Machine
Steam Machine is a SteamOS PC designed in part for living-room play. Valve describes it as using SteamOS, the Steam interface and Proton. In the June 4, 2026 announcement, Valve said the hardware is roughly six times as powerful as a Steam Deck. That is Valve’s relative hardware characterization, not an independent benchmark or a promise of a particular game’s performance.

Steam Frame
Steam Frame is a SteamOS headset that can stream games from a PC and can also run some games on the headset. Valve’s Steam Frame page describes both ways to play. “Steam Frame Standalone Verified” is specifically about running a game on the headset without streaming it from another device.

They include good performance on default graphics settings, legible text and interface elements on the built-in display, and a working default Steam Frame controller setup. A game’s standalone rating therefore answers a different question from whether it can be streamed from a PC.

How to use a rating when choosing a game
Read the label as a device- and play-mode-specific guide to setup and interface fit. Before buying or launching, check the game’s current store or library details and consider:
- Which device? Look for the rating tied to Steam Deck, Steam Machine or Steam Frame rather than assuming one device’s result carries over.
- Which play mode? For Steam Frame, distinguish running the game standalone from streaming it from a PC.
- How much setup is acceptable? Verified is intended to work well out of the box; Playable may call for manual changes.
- Will the controls and interface fit? Controller support, icon prompts, readable text, resolution and launcher navigation all affect practical usability.
- Does the system layer work? Proton, middleware and anti-cheat support can determine whether a game runs at all.
Valve presents Verified as a compatibility signal, not a quality review or a universal performance promise. Ratings can change as games and devices receive updates, so the current game-specific listing is more useful than an old label viewed in isolation.
