What did Team Cherry say about Silksong’s difficulty?
In comments from an ACMI Game Worlds discussion reported by Nintendo Life on September 18, 2025, Gibson said: “Silksong has moments of steep difficulty, but part of allowing a higher level of freedom within the world means that you have choices all the time about where you’re going and what you’re doing”. Gibson described that freedom as the ability to follow a route directly or repeatedly divert to discover other places and paths. When a challenge proves difficult, he said players “have ways to mitigate the difficulty via exploration, or learning, or even circumventing the challenge entirely”. That is a design rationale, not a promise that every obstacle has an alternate route.
Why are Silksong’s enemies different?
Gibson tied enemy complexity to the playable character: “Hornet is inherently faster and more skillful than the Knight, so even the base enemies had to be more complicated, more intelligent”.

Pellen gave the ant warrior as an example, saying it is built from the same moveset as the original Hornet boss. He added that, compared with enemies in Hollow Knight, Hornet’s opponents needed more ways to catch her as she moves away. How to understand the difficulty comments
- Difficulty: Gibson explicitly acknowledged steep moments; he did not describe the game as uniformly easy.
- Player choice: His answer emphasizes exploring, learning, and sometimes taking another route rather than treating direct progression as the only response to difficulty.
- Enemy design: The developers’ comparison is about Hornet’s movement and the behaviors required to challenge her, not a measured difficulty rating against the Knight.
The comments do not establish difficulty settings or modes, nor do they quantify how challenging the game is for players. They explain the team’s design reasoning, not whether every player will find a particular encounter fair or avoidable.
