It is separate from Ubisoft’s June 2024 gameplay showcase, which follows Kay on a gunslinger mission in Mos Eisley. Together, the videos offer samples of the game’s missions and exploration—not a complete tour of its galaxy.
What happens in the 10-minute IGN feature?
IGN’s July 2024 feature centers on Kay traveling across Tatooine during a mission involving Jawas. Neowin’s report on the footage describes varied desert environments, combat with stormtroopers and Sand People, and space dogfights, as well as Kay searching for an item for a Jawa. Those scene details come from secondary reporting, rather than an official Ubisoft transcript. Neowin’s July 17, 2024 report provides the account.

The footage is best read as a focused sample: it gives a sense of Tatooine travel and mission activity, but cannot establish the full variety, length or structure of the game’s missions and exploration. A more specific account identifies the item as a Sarlacc tooth and describes a trip to a Sarlacc pit; that beat-by-beat detail is not confirmed by the official Ubisoft material cited here.
How it differs from Ubisoft’s June gameplay showcase
Ubisoft published a separate gameplay showcase on June 10, 2024. It follows Kay pursuing information about an expert gunslinger on Tatooine, and its route connects travel, faction reputation, infiltration and combat in one mission. Ubisoft’s showcase article describes the sequence:

- In Mos Eisley, where the Hutt Cartel has substantial economic control, her poor reputation makes a straightforward entrance to a Hutt storehouse difficult.
- Kay infiltrates the storehouse to find information about the gunslinger, then escapes during a shootout.
StarWars.com’s summary also describes the June video as a Mos Eisley mission to track down a mysterious gunslinger in the Outer Rim. It is not the July IGN feature about Jawas.
What the game’s exploration involves
Star Wars Outlaws is set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Ubisoft describes Kay as a scoundrel looking for freedom and a new life with her companion Nix. The game’s exploration is built around more than moving between mission markers: conversations, faction relationships, traversal and discoveries can all feed into what Kay does next. Rumors, conversations and side stories
Ubisoft encourages players to visit cantinas, listen to conversations and explore alleyways and markets. Eavesdropping may lead to a small story, a stash or credits. Associate World Director Cloe Hammoud says, “Eavesdropping can lead you to a stash or some credits hidden somewhere.” Creative Director Julian Gerighty describes the value of slowing down to notice “the micro stories from the people chatting and cantinas that you can eavesdrop on and pick up on, and then decide to go track those stories and lose yourself in this beautiful galaxy that we’re a part of”. These are optional discoveries, not simply another name for the main mission chain. Ubisoft’s exploration guide discusses these activities.
Speeder travel and Nix’s abilities
Kay’s speeder helps her cross planetary terrain, and jumps or boosts can provide access to some areas. Upgrades can open routes to locations and hidden treasures. Nix can distract, attack or steal from enemies, press buttons, reach places Kay cannot, and help locate treasure. Kay also uses a data spike to open locks and blaster modules suited to different situations. These abilities give exploration and encounters more options than straightforward walking and shooting.

Experts, factions and the wider galaxy
Experts Kay encounters while exploring can teach her skills. The June showcase’s gunslinger pursuit is one example of an expert-related mission. Game Director Mathias Karlson says, “One of your motivations for exploration is to find elusive experts scattered across the galaxy who will help Kay pick up new skills to survive in the underworld.” Separately, Ubisoft describes crime-syndicate jobs as high risk and high reward: Kay’s choices affect her changing reputation, which can influence opportunities and access.
Ubisoft says planetary orbits and space also contain points of interest, adventures and contracts, alongside dogfights. Optional diversions include Kessel Sabacc, Fathier races and arcade machines. That breadth helps explain the phrase “galaxy exploration,” but the two short gameplay releases are samples, not proof that every planet or activity plays the same way.

Ubisoft’s current pages list Star Wars Outlaws for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Ubisoft also lists a free three-hour demo; availability and storefront details can vary by platform and region, so check the relevant store page before relying on access.
