More importantly, the list visible on the page cannot be treated as a verified June 2020 snapshot: it includes titles such as Battlefield 6 and Starfield, which are inconsistent with that date. The number is best understood as a historical publisher claim, not a dependable catalog.
What does “71 games confirmed for PS5” mean?
BGR’s Jacob Siegal wrote that, “By my count, that’s 71 games in total that have been confirmed for the PlayStation 5 as of June 23rd.” The wording matters: 71 was the article author’s count at a stated point in 2020. It was not an official PlayStation total or a live count of PS5 games. Read the June 23, 2020 BGR article.
The page’s visible list also has a date problem. It includes entries such as Battlefield 6 and Starfield, which do not fit a June 2020 snapshot. That inconsistency means the page as currently displayed cannot establish which games were actually confirmed by its stated cutoff. The transcription below records what appears on the page; it should not be read as a vetted list of 71 confirmed PS5 releases.
What titles does the BGR page display?
The following is a transcription of the titles displayed in the retrieved BGR page. It preserves the page’s entries, including the duplicate Destruction AllStars; it does not verify the titles’ announcement dates, PS5 release status, or whether they reconcile to the article’s stated count.

What did PlayStation confirm in June 2020?
PlayStation’s June 11, 2020 showcase recap offers a more reliable account of that event, but it is not a full platform catalog and does not verify BGR’s 71-game count. Sid Shuman, PlayStation’s Senior Director of Content Communications, described the showcase as a first look at PS5 games under development, followed by the reveal of the console. The recap names examples across PlayStation Studios, independent developers, and third-party publishers. See PlayStation’s showcase recap.
PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst said the showcase revealed nine PlayStation Studios titles. That is a figure for first-party titles shown at the event—not the total number of games confirmed for PS5.

Why the 71 entries should not be treated as one confirmed-release category
A list assembled around a console announcement can combine unlike things: games announced specifically for PS5, cross-generation projects, titles also associated with PS4, working titles, and entries whose status may have changed. The BGR page’s date-inconsistent entries make it especially important not to assign those categories—or claim that each title had been officially confirmed by June 23, 2020—without checking announcements from the relevant date.
PlayStation’s showcase recap can confirm what the company presented at its June 11 event, but it does not function as a comprehensive PS5 database. The BGR page can show what that article currently displays, but its visible list is not enough to establish a historically accurate full list. Those are separate evidentiary limits, not a reason to present the 71 as a verified set.

What did PlayStation say about PS5 editions?
In its launch-era announcement, PlayStation described two PS5 editions: a console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a Digital Edition without one. That is historical hardware context, not current pricing, availability, or buying guidance. PlayStation’s June 2020 recap is the cited source for the announcement.
