Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBefore buying a refurbished PS5 Pro, verify who refurbished it, get its warranty and return terms in writing, and see the console work before you pay—or test it as soon as it arrives. A “refurbished” label alone does not tell you what was repaired or what protection you receive. Use this checklist to assess the seller, console, account handoff, and full cost.
1. Find out who refurbished the console
Ask whether the PS5 Pro was refurbished by Sony, a retailer, or a third party. Request the refurbisher’s written description of its process and grading standard, including what was inspected or replaced. The word “refurbished” does not establish a particular repair standard.
Sony recommends buying through authorized retailers for greater confidence in authenticity, functionality, returns, and warranty coverage. If you are considering another seller, check its reputation and read the listing carefully. Sony’s used PlayStation buying guide distinguishes certified refurbished products from third-party used products; it does not establish that Sony currently offers a certified refurbished PS5 Pro.
2. Get warranty and return terms in writing
Before paying, confirm the warranty length, what it covers, who handles claims, and how to make a claim. Check the return window and whether return shipping or restocking fees apply. Keep a copy of the listing and terms.

Sony’s US warranty information says coverage lasts one year from the original purchase date, applies to the original purchaser, and is valid in the United States and Canada. It does not establish that this warranty transfers to a secondhand buyer. Sony also says third-party used PlayStation products are not covered by its warranty. Sony describes its certified refurbished PlayStation products as including a standard one-year limited warranty, but that should not be assumed to apply to a particular PS5 Pro listing. Check the warranty terms and the seller’s own written policy.
3. Verify the console’s identity and history
Ask for a receipt showing the original purchase date and seller, along with clear photos of the console’s model and serial-number labels. Compare the photos with the actual console before completing an in-person purchase. Sony advises buyers to check that serial numbers have not been removed and that seals are not broken or tampered with.
Rank #2
A missing or altered serial number, broken seal, or mismatch between the listing and console is a reason to pause and ask for an explanation. If the seller cannot provide one, consider another offer.
4. Test the console and its connection to PlayStation services
Sony’s guide says, “Ask for video proof.” Request a video that shows the console powering on, its ports and buttons, any installed disc drive, and a network connection. A video is useful evidence, but it is not a substitute for testing the console yourself or using the return period promptly.

For an in-person purchase, check the following:
- Power the console on and check for visible damage, unusual noise, or signs of overheating.
- Connect it to a display and look for a stable image without obvious image problems.
- Test the controller inputs and the console’s buttons and ports.
- If a disc drive is included, test that it accepts and reads a disc.
- Connect to the internet, sign in, and confirm the console can access PlayStation services.
Sony warns that a PlayStation product reported lost or stolen may be permanently suspended from PlayStation services. If you cannot test service access before paying, make it an early check during the seller’s return period.
5. Confirm the previous owner has deactivated the console
Ask the seller to deactivate the console and confirm they no longer have access to it. Sony includes deactivation as a check when buying a used PlayStation product. Do not treat a working power-on test as proof that the account handoff is complete.

6. Check what is in the bundle—and what you still need
Sony’s US PS5 Pro listing describes a 2 TB all-digital console. The listed box contents are a DualSense controller, HDMI cable, AC power cord, horizontal feet, and manual. A disc drive and vertical stand are separate purchases. A refurbished listing may have different contents, so verify each included item with the seller rather than assuming it matches a new retail box. See Sony’s PS5 Pro listing.
If you want physical games or movie discs, check whether the console comes with a working disc drive. Sony identifies model CFI-ZDD1 as compatible with PS5 Pro; it supports 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD discs. Internet access is required to pair the drive with the console during setup. If the drive is absent, include its separate cost in your comparison. Sony’s Disc Drive information lists compatibility and setup requirements.

7. Compare the real cost and protections
Compare offers on more than the console’s sticker price. The lowest price may not include the accessories you need or provide the same return rights as another listing. Use these criteria side by side:
| What to compare | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Seller and refurbisher | Who performed the refurbishment, and what standard or work is documented? |
| Warranty and returns | What is covered, for how long, who handles a claim, and what are the return costs and deadlines? |
| Identity and proof of purchase | Is there a receipt, and are the model and serial labels present and legible? |
| Working condition | Can the seller demonstrate power-on, ports, controller inputs, network access, and any included disc drive? |
| Included items | Which controller, cables, feet, stand, or disc drive are actually included? |
| Total cost | What will the console and any needed accessories cost together? |
Warranty, return, and price terms depend on the seller and region, and can change with inventory. Check the live listing for your country; do not assume that US terms apply elsewhere.
