What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Before buying an indie simulation game on Steam, check whether your PC meets the game’s listed requirements, what recent players report, whether it is still in Early Access, and how much of the game is playable now. Then compare its price with the experience you actually want. Steam’s refund policy can help in some cases, but it is not an unconditional trial period.
Will it run on your system?
On the game’s Steam Store page, check both its compatible operating systems and its hardware requirements. Steam specifically advises checking requirements as well as operating-system compatibility when assessing a game for a particular platform: Steam Support: Game is not available on your current platform.

- Compare your operating system and hardware with the game’s listed minimum and recommended requirements.
- If you plan to play on a handheld or a non-Windows system, look for compatibility details and recent player reports relevant to that setup. A Steam listing alone does not establish that the game will work well on your device.
Requirements are game-specific, so check the live listing for the title you intend to buy rather than relying on another game’s requirements or a general assumption about indie games.

Steam shows recent and lifetime review scores separately. Its prominent review selection favors reviews that are both recent and helpful, so treat the overall score as a starting point, not a substitute for reading dated feedback. See Steam’s review guidance.

- Create your own virtual vineyard: grow different grape varieties, analyze the soil and combine the best grapes. This realistic farming simulation game gives you full control over the wine quality and variety of your crop.
- Take on every task of a winegrower: prune and unlock your vines, protect them through targeted treatments and decide on the perfect harvest time. In this realistic winemaker simulation, every decision influences later wine making.
- From grape to bottle: choose yeasts and bacteria for fermentation, determine maturation and improve taste, aroma and character of your wines. This winemaking simulation makes you the master of your own winery.
- Build your brand and expand your business: Customize bottle designs, develop your sales network, and leverage marketing and social media strategies. This viticulture video game combines management, simulation and creativity.
- Look for repeated, recent reports of crashes, poor performance, bugs, missing features, confusing controls, or save problems.
- Check whether those reports concern the way you intend to play. For example, feedback about a particular operating system or play style may matter more to you than a general complaint.
- Compare the recent score with the lifetime score. A difference can be a reason to investigate what changed, but the scores alone do not explain why.
Is it in Early Access, and what can you play now?
Check whether the Store page labels the game as Early Access. Steam describes Early Access games as works in progress and advises buying one only if you are excited to play it in its current state. Read the developer’s account of what is playable now and what remains planned; planned features are not a guarantee of completion. Steam Early Access FAQ.
Inspect the game’s update history as well as any roadmap. Steam says it may add a notice to an Early Access page if the developer has not posted a qualifying update for more than 12 months. An old roadmap by itself does not show that development is active, and the notice threshold is not a promise about future updates.

Does the simulation match what you want?
Use the particular game’s description, screenshots, video, tags, and listed features to judge its focus and pace. Check whether its systems and activities appeal to you, and whether the footage supports the description. For a choice between two games, compare them on the same points:

How does Steam’s refund rule work?
Steam’s standard guidance says Valve will issue a refund upon request for a title requested within 14 days of purchase and played for less than two hours. Requests outside those conditions can still be submitted for review, but approval is not guaranteed. Check Steam’s current instructions at How To Request A Refund; do not treat the policy as an unconditional try-before-you-buy promise.
