Sony’s US Terms of Service say the transaction price is the price in effect when you bought the content. A later temporary or permanent reduction is excluded unless the purchase separately qualifies under the PlayStation Store Cancellation Policy. Check the purchase category, timing, download or use status, account region and any applicable local-law rights before submitting a request.
If the purchase is independently eligible, open Transaction History, select the transaction and choose Request Refund. A pricing error discovered by Sony, faulty content and a normal sale are different situations with different remedies.

First, identify what actually happened
“The price changed after I bought it” can describe several cases. The distinction determines whether a refund request has a policy basis.

A normal sale or permanent price reduction
If a game, add-on or other service simply becomes cheaper after your completed transaction, Sony’s US terms do not promise a price match. Section 8.9 states that a temporary or permanent later price drop does not entitle you to a refund unless the original purchase independently qualifies under the PlayStation Store Cancellation Policy. The sale itself is therefore not enough.

A pricing error in the original listing
A pricing error is not the same as a later discount. Sony says it will contact you if it discovers that content or a service was offered at an incorrect price. You may then be allowed to reconfirm the purchase at the correct price or cancel it. Keep the receipt and any communication if the amount charged does not match the price shown when you checked out.
Faulty or unusable content
Faulty content can qualify under cancellation rules even where ordinary game or DLC eligibility would be blocked because downloading or streaming began. The support policy also preserves rights that may apply under local law. Describe the actual defect rather than presenting a sale price as the reason for the request.
When a game or DLC may qualify for cancellation
For games and downloadable content, Sony’s US support guidance sets two key conditions: submit the request within 14 days of purchase, and do not download or stream the content. The download or streaming restriction does not apply in the same way when the content is faulty. These are eligibility conditions, not an automatic approval; Sony can consider the account region, exact transaction and other policy details.

- Count from the purchase date: the request must be made within the published 14-day period.
- Check whether delivery started: downloading or streaming normally removes eligibility for a game or DLC cancellation.
- Separate a defect from buyer’s remorse: if the content is faulty, explain the fault and when it appeared.
- Do not describe a sale as a price match: state the independent cancellation or fault basis, if one exists.
If you bought the content more than 14 days ago or already downloaded and used it, a later sale generally leaves no cancellation-policy route in the US terms. You can still contact Support if the content is defective, the transaction is unauthorized or a billing error occurred; those are different issues from a price reduction.
Eligibility differs by purchase category
Do not apply the game-and-DLC rule to every digital purchase. PlayStation lists separate criteria for consumables, subscriptions and pre-orders.

In-game consumables
Virtual currency, items and similar consumables have their own 14-day rule. The purchase must have been made through PlayStation Store, and Sony’s page says the game must not have been launched after the purchase. How quickly the item is delivered can depend on whether you bought it inside the game or through the Store interface, so record where and when the transaction occurred.

Subscriptions
For a subscription, the relevant 14-day period starts with signup and the first payment. It includes time covered by a free trial. Sony may reduce an approved refund to reflect the service you used during that period, so cancellation does not necessarily return the entire charge. A recurring renewal is not automatically treated as a brand-new 14-day period under this guidance.

Pre-order cancellation timing depends on how far ahead of the release date you placed the order. The main content must not have begun downloading or preloading. If automatic downloads are enabled on your console, a preload can affect eligibility even though the release date has not arrived. Review Sony’s pre-order cancellation instructions for the timing rule that matches your order.
How to submit a refund request
- Confirm the reason. Decide whether this is only a later sale, a possible original-price error, faulty content, an unwanted eligible purchase, or an unauthorized transaction. A sale alone is not a refund basis under the US terms.
- Check the category and deadline. Identify whether the transaction is a game, DLC, consumable, subscription or pre-order. Compare its purchase date, download or streaming status, launch status and, for a pre-order, its relationship to the release date.
- Open Transaction History. Sign in to the PlayStation account that made the purchase and open the account’s Transaction History. Sony’s support instruction is to open Transaction History and select an eligible transaction.
- Select the transaction. Choose the purchase that meets an independent cancellation, fault or other applicable basis. If it is outside the policy conditions, the refund control may not appear.
- Choose “Request Refund.” Follow the on-screen questions and provide the requested details. Describe the qualifying fact accurately, including a defect or pricing discrepancy when that is the real issue.
- Use PlayStation Support if the automated route fails. If the transaction is missing, the button is unavailable, the form errors or your circumstances need review, continue through the PlayStation Support refund page and its refund assistant or contact route.
Save the transaction ID, receipt, purchase date, product name and screenshots showing the original listing or fault. Documentation cannot create eligibility, but it helps Support distinguish a pricing error, defective delivery and ordinary post-purchase discount.

What to do when the request option is unavailable
The purchase is older than 14 days
For categories with a 14-day window, an older request is outside the stated period. Do not recast a normal sale as a pricing error. Contact Support only if another fact applies, such as faulty content, an unauthorized charge or a mismatch between the amount displayed and the amount charged.
The game or DLC was downloaded or streamed
Downloading or streaming normally prevents cancellation for games and DLC. Explain a genuine fault if the content does not work as promised; faulty-content treatment is distinct from wanting the lower sale price.

Verify that you are signed in to the purchasing account and that you are viewing the correct regional account. Check the receipt, payment method and transaction date. If the purchase still cannot be found, use PlayStation Support rather than submitting a duplicate claim.

A pre-order began preloading
Check console automatic-download settings and the pre-order’s release timing. A started preload can change the result under Sony’s pre-order rules. Record when the preload began and provide that information to Support.
The transaction was made in a different country or region
Policies are regional. Sony’s US terms and support page apply to US accounts; another country can have different cancellation rights, statutory protections or procedures. Use the policy for the account’s country or region. Sony publishes separate cancellation-policy pages for Canada and the United Kingdom, for example. Local law may preserve rights for faulty digital content or other circumstances beyond the standard policy.
How to frame the request
Be precise and keep the reason tied to the policy category:
- Later sale: acknowledge that the price fell after purchase and ask only if another independent eligibility basis applies.
- Pricing discrepancy: state the price shown at checkout, the amount charged and any receipt or account notification.
- Fault: identify the product, describe the reproducible problem and say whether downloading or streaming occurred.
- Subscription: provide signup and first-payment dates, including any free-trial period.
- Pre-order: provide order date, release date and whether automatic preloading started.
A clear factual request is more useful than arguing that the Store should match a promotion. Sony’s published US rule addresses the transaction price at the time of purchase; it does not create a general post-purchase price-adjustment program.
Price changes, refunds and consumer rights
The 14-day periods and download restrictions are Sony policy conditions, not a promise that every request will be approved. The result can change with product category, account region, transaction timing, use or delivery status and applicable law. A local consumer-protection rule may add rights, particularly where digital content is faulty, so consult the policy and consumer rules for your location rather than relying on a US answer for every account.
For a straightforward US purchase that worked as delivered, was downloaded or streamed, and is now on sale, the practical answer is usually no price adjustment. For an eligible unused purchase, a fault, a genuine pricing error or another category-specific circumstance, the Transaction History process is the correct starting point.
