Start by identifying which problem you have
A purchase and a download are separate stages. A game may fail to download even though the payment succeeded, while a payment issue can leave you with no completed purchase to download. Checking the transaction history for the account that was used to buy the game is the quickest way to choose the right troubleshooting path.

- Check the transaction history for the account you believe purchased the game. Confirm whether the purchase appears as completed.
- If it is not there, work through the payment and account checks below. Repeatedly retrying a download will not resolve a purchase that did not complete.
- If the purchase is present, open Downloads/Uploads from the PS5 Control Center. Check whether the game has not started at all or stopped after beginning.
- If the game is absent from your library or displays a padlock, follow the account and license checks instead of treating it as a queue problem.
This division matters because the fixes are different: queue controls address download activity, while account, payment, subscription, sharing, and license checks address whether the console can access the game.

If the purchase itself did not complete
When the transaction does not appear in the relevant account’s history, check the payment method details before trying the purchase again. Sony advises checking that the payment method has not expired and that its billing address is correct. If the payment problem continues, try another available payment method.
Payment methods and their availability can vary by region, so an option available to someone elsewhere may not be available on your account. If a charge appears on a payment account but the PlayStation transaction is not confirmed, keep the transaction information available when you contact PlayStation Support rather than assuming the game is ready to download.
The PlayStation Store has separate pathways for purchase, payment, and refund questions. Use the route that matches what happened: a failed checkout is different from a completed purchase with a stalled download. Avoid repeatedly placing the same order while the transaction status is unclear.

Before moving to download troubleshooting, confirm which account was signed in when the order was placed. Transaction history must be checked for the account used to buy the game; checking a different household member’s account can make a successful purchase appear to be missing. If there is no completed transaction, resolve that checkout question first. If it is confirmed, leave the payment branch and troubleshoot the queue or access issue instead.
If the download will not start
Use this branch when the title is in Downloads/Uploads but has not begun downloading. Sony’s listed first actions are to pause and resume the item, then cancel and delete it and try again if that does not work.
- From the PS5 Control Center, open Downloads/Uploads and select the game.
- Choose Pause, then choose Resume. Check whether the download begins.
- If it still will not start, select the item and choose Cancel and Delete.
- Find the game in Game Library and try the download again.
- If the retry also fails, check PlayStation service status, update the PS5 system software, and verify available storage.
To check storage, go to Settings > Storage. Compare the free space with the minimum free-space requirement shown in the game’s product details. If the console does not have enough room, clear space before another attempt; this branch is relevant when capacity is insufficient, not as a general cure for every download problem.

A service disruption can prevent a new download from getting underway even when the console and purchase are otherwise in order. If PlayStation service status shows an alert, wait for service to be restored and then retry rather than repeatedly deleting and recreating the queue item.
These checks address different causes: Pause and Resume refreshes the queue item, while Cancel and Delete followed by a fresh attempt is the next step when the item still will not start. A software update and adequate free space are console prerequisites to check after those queue actions fail. The product details provide the title’s minimum free-space requirement, so use that figure rather than guessing how much room is needed.
If a download starts but gets stuck
A download that has begun and then stopped progressing is different from one that never starts. Check PlayStation service status first. If there is an alert, wait for the service to recover before changing the queue or console settings.
If no relevant service alert is shown, test the connection directly on the console:
- Open Settings > Network > Connection Status.
- Select Test Internet Connection.
- After the test, return to Downloads/Uploads and see whether the game continues.
If the download remains stuck, Sony lists Safe Mode > Clear Cache and Rebuild Database as a further troubleshooting step. Treat it as one step to try, not a guaranteed fix: Sony does not say this resolves every stalled download. Follow the Safe Mode instructions shown by PlayStation for the console, and avoid choosing a different Safe Mode option unless you understand its effect.

For this branch, use the order of operations to narrow the cause: a service alert points to waiting for restoration; with no alert, the console’s connection test is the next diagnostic; Safe Mode cache clearing and database rebuilding come after those checks if the item is still stuck. This is different from a download that has never started, for which Sony lists Pause and Resume and then Cancel and Delete as the initial actions.
If the game is missing or shows a padlock
A missing purchase or padlock can indicate an access problem rather than a broken download. Check these possibilities in order:
- Wrong account: Make sure the PS5 is signed into the account that bought the game. Confirm the transaction in that account’s history.
- PlayStation Plus game: Verify that the subscription is active and that the game is still available through it. Subscription access depends on both conditions.
- Game shared by another account: The account that owns the game must have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled for the console.
- License issue: Restore licenses using the procedure below if the purchase is confirmed but the game remains locked or inaccessible.
For a purchased game, checking the purchasing account is especially important if more than one person uses the console. A title acquired under a different account may not appear as a purchase under the currently signed-in account. For a subscription title, a purchase-history check alone does not establish that subscription access is still available.
Use the symptom to choose the relevant check. A missing title calls for confirming the account and transaction; a padlock on a confirmed purchase can point toward a license issue; and access through PlayStation Plus depends on an active subscription and the title still being available. If another account owns the game, check that owner’s Console Sharing and Offline Play setting rather than expecting the currently signed-in account’s purchase history to show it as owned.
Restore licenses for a confirmed purchase that remains locked
On the PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Then check whether the title is accessible. Sony Interactive Entertainment says, “Please note, restoring licenses won’t affect your data.” License restoration is aimed at license symptoms; it is not a substitute for resolving a failed payment or an incomplete download.
If the game is still unavailable afterward, return to the account, subscription, or sharing checks that fit how you access it. A license step cannot make a subscription game available after it leaves the applicable service, nor can it replace the owner’s sharing setting.

Restore licenses is therefore most relevant after confirming that the right account bought the title but the console still treats it as locked or inaccessible. It does not change the basic decision path: if there is no completed purchase, revisit the purchase issue; if the item is in the queue and stalled, follow the download steps; if the game comes from a subscription or another account, verify those access conditions.

If the console displays CE-112987-8, use Sony’s error-specific steps rather than relying only on the general queue actions. Sony advises updating system software, deleting the listed content and retrying, signing out and back in, restarting the console, and restoring licenses.
- Update the PS5 system software.
- Delete the content identified in the error guidance, then retry.
- Sign out of the account and sign back in.
- Restart the console.
- Restore licenses at Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
Use the error’s own identification of the content when deleting; do not assume that unrelated installed games need to be removed. If CE-112987-8 appears during an attempted purchase rather than while accessing or downloading content, also check the payment method’s expiry date and billing address. Payment availability can depend on region.
Keep the error-specific list distinct from general stuck-download troubleshooting. It includes signing out and back in and restarting, in addition to software, content, and license steps. If the code appears at checkout, use the payment checks as well; if it appears while downloading or accessing content, note the stage when you report it.
