ARC Raiders’ new Grappling Hook is a traversal tool for climbing to hard-to-reach places, rappelling from buildings, and swinging across gaps. Its maximum range has not been published in the reviewed official material, so there is no supported numeric answer to how far it reaches. A hands-on preview describes a pivoting rope mechanic—not simply a straight pull to the aimed point—and reports midair reattachment during that preview session.
The tool arrived with Frozen Trail 2.0 on October 8, 2026. Here is what its documented movement roles mean in practice, what the preview says about chained swings, and how to avoid mixing its unknown specifications up with the separate Snap Hook’s published numbers.

What the Grappling Hook does
Embark added the Grappling Hook in the Frozen Trail 2.0 update, released October 8, 2026. The developer presents it as a way to expand traversal: climb to elevated or otherwise hard-to-reach places, descend from buildings, and swing over large gaps. Those are the documented roles; they do not mean every ledge or surface can be hooked, or that a grapple guarantees a safe landing.

ARC Raiders is a multiplayer extraction adventure, so traversal is not only a matter of reaching a ledge. Where you can move may affect the route you take through an encounter or toward an objective. The hook’s documented purpose is movement, however; the official description does not promise stealth, protection, a combat advantage, or a guaranteed escape. Think of it as another way to change elevation or cross space, not as a solution to every situation.
How the rope movement works
In a hands-on preview, PC Gamer described the hook as behaving like a simulated rope. Once attached, the point of attachment acts as a pivot: the player can move toward it, descend away from it, or swing around it. That makes the tool more like a traversal line than a one-time yank that pulls the player directly to the aimed location.
The distinction matters when thinking about what the device is for. Climbing, rappelling, and swinging are different movements built around an attachment point. The official description establishes those broad uses; the pivot explanation comes from the preview session, not a detailed published control or physics specification. The sources do not establish exact input timing, how momentum behaves, or which particular surfaces accept an attachment.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
In other words, an attached line should not be understood as a promise that the player will be deposited at the anchor. Embark’s examples describe several possible relationships to the same kind of attachment: gaining height toward a hard-to-reach spot, descending from a building, or using the point as a pivot to swing over a gap. The preview’s rope comparison helps explain how those roles can differ, but does not supply a full instruction manual for operating the gadget.
That distinction is useful when judging claims about the tool. A simple “pull” interpretation would imply a fixed endpoint and a direct arrival, but the hands-on account instead describes the anchor as a pivot around which movement can continue. Nothing in the reviewed material quantifies the resulting speed, swing distance, momentum, or control precision. Treat those as unreported details rather than assuming they follow from the rope analogy.
How far can it reach?
No numeric maximum range for the Grappling Hook appears in the reviewed official update notes or preview, and the hands-on report does not provide one. Treat its reach as unreported rather than assuming a number from another gadget. In particular, the 18-meter figure in Frozen Trail 2.0 belongs to the separate Snap Hook, not the Grappling Hook.
Embark’s update says Snap Hook range was reduced from 20 meters to 18 meters. Those figures describe that patch change for Snap Hook; they are not a measurement of how far the new rope can attach. Without an official Grappling Hook specification, claims that it reaches a particular distance—or that it is longer- or shorter-ranged than Snap Hook—would go beyond what these sources establish.

This is an important distinction because both names contain “Hook,” and the two items appear in the same update discussion. A range number is not transferable just because the gadgets share a word in their names. If a guide, clip, or comment gives the Grappling Hook a maximum distance of 18 meters or 20 meters, check whether it has actually measured the new gadget; the official 18-meter update figure is specifically for Snap Hook.
There is also no supported conversion from the descriptions “large gaps” or “hard-to-reach spots” into a distance. Those phrases describe intended movement roles, not a maximum attachment radius. The materials do not give a minimum reach, a radius, or any range that varies with direction or elevation. The accurate answer to “How far can it reach?” is therefore that a numeric maximum has not been stated in the official material and hands-on account described here.
What is known about uses, cooldowns, and unlocks?
The update confirms that Grappling Hook is a new Frozen Trail item, and Embark’s preview describes its movement roles. Beyond those facts, the reviewed official sources do not publish an item recipe, rarity, trader, unlock requirement, charge count, durability figure, or cooldown for it. That means there is not enough published information here to give crafting instructions or a reliable checklist for obtaining it.
PC Gamer reported that, in its preview session, the player could redeploy the hook in midair without a cooldown or use limit and chain swings. This is useful evidence of how the mechanic behaved in that session, but it is preview reporting rather than a complete, permanent game specification. Do not assume the same availability, restrictions, or balance applies in every live-game state.
That makes two different answers necessary when players ask whether the hook has unlimited uses. The hands-on preview observed midair redeployment with no cooldown or use limit during that session. Embark’s official notes and preview do not publish a formal charge count, cooldown, or use limit for the live item. The observation is relevant, but it is not equivalent to a confirmed rule for every version of the game.
Likewise, the fact that the hook is listed as a new item in Frozen Trail 2.0 does not explain how to obtain it. The cited official materials do not identify crafting ingredients, an unlock quest, a trader, rarity, or a cost. Avoid relying on an assumed recipe or acquisition route based on another gadget. For an exact current requirement, the game client or a later official item listing would need to provide details not stated in the update material described here.
Grappling Hook and Snap Hook are different tools
The similar names can invite a mistaken comparison. Frozen Trail 2.0 discusses Snap Hook separately and frames it as a burst-mobility gadget, rather than a general-use linear upgrade. That design distinction supports treating the tools as having different roles; it does not establish a full performance ranking or prove which is better in a particular fight or route.

Embark describes Snap Hook as being shaped for burst mobility rather than a general-use linear upgrade. Meanwhile, the Grappling Hook’s advertised uses include climbing, rappelling, and swinging. That supports a difference in intended function, but the sources do not provide head-to-head test results, comparative speed, or a recommendation that one is better in every loadout.
For the same reason, the published Snap Hook costs do not establish that the Grappling Hook is free, cheaper, more expensive, or more durable. The October notes give Snap Hook’s power cost as 60, up from 50, and durability consumption per use as 4%, up from 2%. Those are concrete values for the older gadget’s update changes, not clues to the new item’s economy.
Best uses supported by the available information
Reach elevated or hard-to-access places
Embark explicitly identifies climbing to hard-to-reach spots as a use. This is the clearest reason to choose the tool when a route depends on elevation or access that ordinary movement does not provide. The sources do not identify a universally hookable class of ledges, so do not assume that every apparent anchor point will work.
As a route-planning choice, this role is most relevant when the obstacle is access to a higher or otherwise difficult-to-reach position. The official description supports that broad use, but not a claim that the gadget reaches every roof, ledge, or platform. Consider the destination as well as the ascent: the sources do not say that reaching a high position automatically makes it safe, useful for a particular objective, or easy to leave.
Descend from buildings
Rappelling is another stated use. It gives the hook a descent role as well as an ascent role; it is not just a way to gain height. Because the official description does not promise a safe landing, plan the destination rather than treating attachment as protection from whatever lies below.
This is a distinct use from climbing. If the route calls for getting down from a building, the developer’s description specifically includes descending by rope. But “rappel” should not be stretched into a guarantee of a controlled landing, a particular descent speed, or immunity from threats on the way down. None of those performance or safety details is specified in the cited materials.

Swing across gaps
Embark specifically lists swinging across large gaps, and the hands-on report’s pivot description explains why an attached rope can support that kind of movement. The source material does not identify a best map, gap size, or surface combination, nor does it measure a speed advantage. Use swinging as the documented traversal option, not as a guarantee that any open space can be crossed.
In practical terms, distinguish the documented idea—using the line to swing across a gap—from a guaranteed result on a specific route. The official description does not say what dimensions count as “large,” which side of a gap must offer an anchor, or how much room a swing needs. Nor does the preview provide a measured crossing distance. Those details should be verified in the game rather than treated as universal rules.
Extend a route with a midair reattachment
Chained swings are a possibility reported in PC Gamer’s preview session, where midair redeployment had no observed cooldown or use limit. If that behavior is available in the version you are playing, another attachment can continue a route rather than ending movement at the first swing. Since the observation is session-specific, verify the behavior in the live client before building a route or escape plan around it.
This is the most conditional of the documented use cases. The preview supports the idea that a player could attach again in midair and continue a swing sequence during the session. It does not supply a current universal limit, guarantee that every reattachment will work, or confirm a no-cooldown rule for all live versions. Treat it as a potentially useful movement option, not a dependable escape mechanic with a known number of consecutive uses.
Think about the movement problem before choosing a use
The official examples can be separated into three simple movement questions: do you need to get up to a difficult position, get down from a building, or move over a gap? Those correspond to climbing, rappelling, and swinging. The preview’s pivot explanation adds context for the last two, but it does not establish the exact controls required for any of them. This way of sorting uses stays within the roles Embark actually names without assuming an optimal route or a specific map interaction.
It can also keep expectations realistic. A traversal tool may change the route available to you, but the sources do not promise that it improves travel time, avoids enemies, or makes an exposed crossing safe. For a decision that depends on a precise attachment point, surface, range, or cooldown, the published descriptions do not supply enough information. Confirm those mechanics in the current client rather than building a plan around an unverified number.
Limits to keep in mind
The available descriptions define the intended movement roles, but they do not provide a complete mechanical specification. They also do not compare performance across maps, materials, or combat situations. As a result, the evidence does not support claims about guaranteed attachment, an optimal route, a reliable combat escape, or a universal advantage over Snap Hook.

- There is no published numeric Grappling Hook reach in the reviewed sources.
- The official materials reviewed do not state its cooldown, charges, durability, recipe, rarity, or unlock steps.
- The reported repeat-use behavior is from a preview session and should not be treated as a fixed live-game rule.
- The official descriptions do not promise that a grapple will make a landing safe or that every surface can serve as an anchor.
Other useful details are also absent: no stated minimum reach, measured swing speed, exact control sequence, material-by-material attachment list, or map-by-map performance comparison appears in the cited material. That absence does not prove the game has no such rules; it means these descriptions do not establish them. Avoid converting an unreported mechanic into a confident specification.
The current naming is another small but practical caveat. Embark’s September preview calls it “Grapple Hook,” while the October update highlights say “Grappling Hook.” Both refer to the new traversal item in this coverage. If you are searching the menus, patch notes, or an inventory entry, use the name shown in the current client rather than treating the wording difference as evidence of two separate traversal ropes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far can the Grappling Hook reach in ARC Raiders?
A numeric maximum range is not stated in Embark’s reviewed update notes or preview, and PC Gamer’s hands-on preview does not give one. The 18 m figure—and the previous 20 m figure—belong to Snap Hook, not Grappling Hook.
Recommended Free Tools
Does the Grappling Hook pull you directly to the point you aim at?
PC Gamer described it in a hands-on preview as a simulated rope whose attachment point acts as a pivot. The player could climb toward it, descend from it, or swing against it, so the report describes more than a simple straight-line pull. Exact controls and physics are not specified in the cited materials.
Can you use the Grappling Hook more than once in midair?
PC Gamer reported midair redeployment and chained swings without an observed cooldown or use limit in its preview session. That is session-specific reporting, not a permanent official live-game specification.
What does the Grappling Hook do best?
Embark names three uses: climbing to hard-to-reach spots, rappelling from buildings, and swinging over large gaps. The sources do not identify a best map, guarantee that every surface attaches, or establish a universal combat or escape advantage.
How do Grappling Hook and Snap Hook differ?
Embark describes Grappling Hook as a traversal tool for climbing, rappelling, and swinging. The October 8, 2026 update frames Snap Hook as burst mobility and gives it a separate 18 m range, 60 power cost, and 4% durability use per activation. Those numbers are not Grappling Hook specifications.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow do you unlock or craft the Grappling Hook?
The official materials cited here confirm it as a new Frozen Trail item but do not state a recipe, rarity, trader, or unlock requirement. They do not support a reliable crafting or acquisition checklist.
Is the Grappling Hook guaranteed to attach to any ledge or surface?
No such guarantee appears in the cited material. Embark describes climbing to hard-to-reach places, but neither the official descriptions nor the hands-on report lists every compatible surface.
The Bottom Line
In ARC Raiders, the Grappling Hook is documented as a rope-based traversal gadget for climbing, rappelling, and swinging. PC Gamer’s preview describes its attachment point as a pivot and reports midair chained swings in that session, but the official material does not publish a numeric range, live cooldown, recipe, or unlock requirement. Keep Snap Hook’s 18 m range and 60 power cost separate: those figures belong to Snap Hook, not Grappling Hook.
