If you are playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the Hinox you just dealt with is one of the Three Giant Brothers, the ball it was carrying is an ancient shrine orb. Take it to the three pedestals beside the stone tablet at Taran Pass, and place it on the pedestal that faces the direction where you found that Hinox. Once all three orbs sit on their correct pedestals, Tawa Jinn Shrine is revealed.
The title does not name the game or the quest, so this answer applies only to the Three Giant Brothers sequence in Breath of the Wild. Other Hinox encounters in the Zelda series do not necessarily work the same way.
Which Hinox carries an orb
The orb-bearing Hinoxes for this quest are found at three locations:
- Hanu Pond
- Uten Marsh
- Rabella Wetlands
Note which of these locations you are in before you move on. The pedestal you need is determined by the Hinox the orb came from, so the location tells you where the orb goes.

Getting the orb
You do not have to defeat a Hinox to take its orb. According to Zelda Dungeon’s Tawa Jinn Shrine guide, you can steal the orb before the Hinox wakes, or use stealth to retrieve it. Killing the Hinox is an option, not a requirement.
Placing the orbs at Taran Pass
- Travel to Taran Pass and find the stone tablet with its three pedestals.
- Identify the pedestal that faces the direction of the Hinox you took the orb from. Hanu Pond, Uten Marsh, and Rabella Wetlands each correspond to one pedestal.
- Place the orb on that pedestal.
- Repeat for the other two orbs, matching each one to the Hinox it came from.
- When all three orbs are correctly placed, Tawa Jinn Shrine is revealed.
If an orb goes on the wrong pedestal
An orb placed on the wrong pedestal does not stay there. According to the same guide, it resets back to the Hinox it came from. You will need to retrieve that orb again and place it on the correct pedestal. Check the direction before you set the orb down, because a wrong placement costs a return trip to the Hinox.

The tablet clue
The stone tablet’s inscription, as quoted in GameFAQs’ walkthrough for “The Three Giant Brothers,” reads: “The ancient orbs guarded by the giants of Mount Taran lead to the shrine.” The text is attributed to the tablet itself, not to any character, and it points to the same goal of collecting the three orbs.

These steps are drawn from community walkthroughs, specifically Zelda Dungeon and GameFAQs, not from a patch-by-patch test of the game. If the behavior you see differs from the description above, check which version of the game you are playing, because later updates can change how quest mechanics behave. The Hinox orb puzzle described here is specific to this quest and should not be assumed for other Hinoxes, other Zelda titles, or any ball found in a different context.
