The right gaming PC for Fortnite, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, or Apex Legends is the one that meets every game’s requirements at the settings you actually want—not simply a machine labeled “gaming PC.” Before comparing prices, write down your games, target resolution, graphics quality, and frame-rate goal. Then check the candidate’s exact CPU, graphics card, RAM, storage type, and operating system against each publisher’s current requirements page.
Minimum specifications are a compatibility floor. They do not promise high settings or a particular frame rate. Recommended specifications are a stronger starting point, while Fortnite’s separate Epic Quality Presets tier demands a substantially higher graphics level.

Start with the games you will actually play
Battle royale is a genre, not a single hardware requirement. Fortnite, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, and Apex Legends publish different CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and operating-system requirements. A computer that clears one game’s minimum tier can still fall short of another game’s recommended tier.

Minimum is not a performance promise
Epic’s Fortnite guidance is unusually direct: “If you just meet the minimum system requirements, Fortnite will run on your machine, but probably not on the highest settings.” Treat that as a compatibility statement, not an FPS guarantee. The same principle applies to the minimum rows for PUBG and Apex.
Recommended is still a target, not a benchmark
A recommended specification tells you the publisher’s intended hardware tier for a better experience. It does not establish how many frames a particular current PC will deliver at 1080p, 1440p, a chosen quality preset, or a competitive settings mix. To predict a result, you need a benchmark for the exact CPU-and-GPU combination in the listing.
Published memory requirements by game
RAM is one of the easiest specifications to compare because all three games publish a number. These are the figures shown on the cited requirement pages; they are not a universal rule for every future update or every other battle royale title.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Game | Minimum RAM | Recommended RAM | Higher-quality tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fortnite | 8 GB | 16 GB or higher | Epic Quality Presets: 16 GB or higher |
| PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS | 8 GB | 16 GB | The cited table separates minimum and recommended tiers |
| Apex Legends | 6 GB | 8 GB | The cited table separates minimum and recommended tiers |
Fortnite and PUBG therefore make 16 GB the relevant published recommended level, while Apex’s recommended figure is 8 GB. If you plan to play all three, compare the machine with the highest requirement among your chosen games rather than averaging the numbers.
How to read a listing’s RAM specification
- Confirm the installed capacity, not just a seller’s phrase such as “gaming memory.”
- Check whether the listing describes the factory configuration or an optional upgrade.
- Record the capacity alongside the exact CPU and GPU so you can compare complete systems, not isolated parts.
- If a candidate only meets a minimum row, keep your graphics-quality expectations conservative and verify current game updates before purchase.
Graphics hardware is the major dividing line
Each game lists a graphics requirement, but the tiers are not interchangeable. The following values are the concrete GPU figures published in the cited tables.
| Game and tier | Published graphics requirement | Memory detail |
|---|---|---|
| Fortnite Epic Quality Presets | NVIDIA RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, or equivalent | 8 GB VRAM or higher |
| PUBG minimum | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R7 370 | 2 GB VRAM |
| PUBG recommended | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580 | 3 GB VRAM for GTX 1060; 4 GB VRAM for RX 580 |
| Apex Legends recommended | AMD Radeon R9 290 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 | The cited table names the GPU models; it does not establish a single comparable VRAM figure here |
Do not present the lowest listed card as a high-settings recommendation. Fortnite’s Epic Quality Presets row is a separate, substantially stronger tier than its basic minimum or recommended specifications. For PUBG, the GTX 960/R7 370 pair is explicitly minimum, while the GTX 1060/RX 580 pair is explicitly recommended. Apex’s listed recommended cards are a different generation again.
Compare exact GPU models, not names alone
A product page may advertise a series name while using a different model, memory capacity, or laptop variant. Copy the full model designation from the listing and compare it with the game’s requirement. “Dedicated graphics” is a useful category label, but it is not proof that the card reaches a particular game tier.

When a listing uses “equivalent,” ask what comparison it is making. An equivalent claim should be checked against current independent benchmarks for the exact hardware; the requirement pages themselves do not define FPS equivalence.
Set a resolution, quality, and frame-rate target before shopping
Two buyers can reasonably choose different PCs for the same game. One may want a lower visual preset and a high-refresh competitive display; another may prioritize visual quality at a higher resolution. State your target before looking at prices:
- Choose the display resolution. Write down whether you are buying for 1080p, 1440p, or another resolution.
- Choose graphics quality. Decide whether you want minimum-friendly settings, the game’s recommended-style settings, or Fortnite’s Epic Quality Presets.
- Choose a frame-rate objective. Record the number you want to sustain, while recognizing that the cited requirements pages do not provide FPS results for current PCs.
- Check benchmarks for the exact parts. A benchmark using the same CPU, GPU, game version, resolution, and settings is more informative than a generic “gaming” label.
Without those three targets, a price comparison can be misleading: a cheaper computer may be adequate for one resolution and preset but unsuitable for another. Conversely, paying for an Epic-tier graphics card makes little sense if your chosen settings never require it.
Check the CPU and operating system as carefully as the GPU
The game requirement pages include processor and operating-system information, so those fields belong on your checklist even when a retailer emphasizes the graphics card. Read the exact CPU model, not merely “quad-core” or “high-performance,” and compare the stated operating-system requirement with the edition installed or supplied by the PC.

Avoid generic processor descriptions
Record the processor’s complete model name and generation from the listing. A broad label can hide meaningful differences between desktop and mobile chips, older and newer generations, or different power limits. If the listing omits the model, treat that omission as a reason to request clarification before paying.
Verify the operating system and update status
Confirm which operating system is included and whether the listing expects you to provide a license or installation. Because publishers can revise requirements, revisit the live game page immediately before purchase and after major game updates.
Storage: capacity, type, and Fortnite’s NVMe requirement
Storage affects installation planning and, in some cases, hitching behavior. Fortnite’s recommended and Epic Quality Presets specifications call for an NVMe SSD. That is a more specific requirement than simply “has storage,” so identify the drive type in the listing rather than assuming every SSD is NVMe.

Epic’s Performance Mode guidance says an SSD can help older machines reduce hitches and stutters. The article describes a tradeoff, not a universal average-FPS increase. Storage type therefore belongs in the comparison, but it should not be used to promise a frame-rate result the source does not establish.
Questions to ask about a storage configuration
- Is the primary drive an NVMe SSD, another SSD type, or a hard drive?
- How much usable capacity remains after the operating system and recovery partitions?
- Are the games intended for the fast primary drive or a secondary drive?
- Does the listing identify an available slot for a future drive, and does the manufacturer document the upgrade procedure?
These are listing-level checks. The cited requirement pages do not provide current retail capacities, prices, or loading-time benchmarks, so verify those details on the exact configuration you are considering.
Use Fortnite Performance Mode as a settings option, not a rescue guarantee
Fortnite Performance Mode is selectable through the in-game settings menu. Epic describes it as offering significant performance gains by trading visual quality to lower memory usage and lighten the load on the CPU and GPU. That makes it a legitimate option for an older or lower-spec machine, but it does not turn every under-spec computer into a suitable gaming system.
When Performance Mode can make sense
- The PC is close to the game’s requirements but struggles with visual effects or memory pressure.
- You prefer a lighter visual presentation and want to reduce the CPU/GPU workload.
- An SSD-equipped older machine still experiences hitches that may be related to storage or asset streaming.
What it cannot tell you
The cited Performance Mode article is historical and does not measure a current PC at a named resolution or frame rate. Do not use it as evidence that a machine below the published requirements will meet your target.
A step-by-step buying process
- List every intended game. Include games you expect to add during the PC’s useful life.
- Open the live requirement pages. Start with Fortnite’s PC requirements, the PUBG requirement table, and the Apex requirement table. Requirements can change, so check them on the day you buy.
- Write your target settings. Note resolution, graphics preset, and desired frame rate before opening retailer listings.
- Copy the candidate’s exact specifications. Capture CPU model, GPU model and VRAM, installed RAM, storage type and capacity, and operating system.
- Test the minimum tier. Reject a candidate that misses a required component for any game you intend to play, unless you have a documented upgrade plan and accept the risk.
- Test the recommended or Epic tier. For higher settings, compare against the relevant recommended row or Fortnite’s Epic Quality Presets row rather than the minimum row.
- Find exact-hardware benchmarks. Look for the same CPU/GPU combination at your chosen resolution and settings. Treat results from a different game version or preset as directional, not guaranteed.
- Inspect the upgrade path. Confirm that memory, storage, and graphics upgrades are physically and electrically supported by the specific chassis and power supply.
- Recheck the final listing. Make sure the checkout configuration matches the specification you evaluated; prebuilt pages sometimes offer multiple RAM, GPU, or storage options.
How to compare two candidate PCs
Use a side-by-side worksheet rather than a single “gaming performance” score. For each machine, record:
- Per-game fit: whether CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and operating system meet each game’s minimum and intended tier.
- Graphics flexibility: whether the graphics card is merely a minimum match, a recommended match, or appropriate for Fortnite’s Epic Quality Presets.
- Memory headroom: compare installed RAM with the highest published requirement among your games.
- Storage configuration: identify NVMe specifically when Fortnite’s recommended or Epic tier is your target.
- Target-setting evidence: match benchmarks to the exact resolution, quality preset, and frame-rate objective.
- Upgrade and support details: verify open memory slots, drive bays, power-supply capacity, cooling, warranty terms, and the manufacturer’s documented compatibility.
The last group contains buyer checks rather than published game requirements. The cited sources do not establish current PC prices, retailer inventory, benchmark results for named computers, or upgrade compatibility for a particular listing, so those facts must come from the listing and manufacturer documentation.

Fix: build the comparison around the strictest requirement among all intended games, and keep each game’s tier visible in your notes.
Treating minimum GPU as a high-settings card
Mistake: reading PUBG’s GTX 960 or R7 370 minimum row as a recommendation for visual quality.

Fix: keep minimum and recommended rows separate. For Fortnite, distinguish the ordinary requirement tiers from Epic Quality Presets and its 8 GB-or-higher VRAM specification.
Assuming more RAM guarantees more FPS
Mistake: equating a larger memory number with a guaranteed frame-rate increase.
Fix: use RAM first as a requirement and capacity check. Performance still depends on the complete system, game settings, and exact hardware; the requirement pages do not publish FPS benchmarks.
Using an SSD claim as a benchmark substitute
Mistake: assuming any SSD automatically delivers a particular FPS or removes every stutter.

Three practical buying tiers
Compatibility-first system
This approach aims to clear the minimum rows for the games you play. It can be appropriate when budget or portability matters and you accept reduced visual settings. Do not describe it as a high-settings or high-refresh solution without exact-hardware evidence.
Recommended-tier system
This approach compares the candidate with each game’s recommended CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and operating-system rows. For a mixed Fortnite, PUBG, and Apex library, use the highest relevant recommended requirement rather than selecting the easiest game.
Fortnite Epic-quality system
If Fortnite’s Epic Quality Presets are your goal, use that tier explicitly: Epic lists an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT equivalent and 8 GB VRAM or higher, alongside 16 GB RAM or higher and an NVMe SSD. This is a different purchase target from merely meeting Fortnite’s minimum requirements.
What the official pages do—and do not—tell you
The requirement pages are authoritative for the tiers they publish, but they are not a complete buying test. They let you verify compatibility and identify the graphics and memory class each game expects. They do not provide a comparable current retail price, a benchmark for a particular prebuilt computer, guaranteed FPS at a chosen resolution, or proof that a specific listing offers good value.
That distinction matters when a seller uses a requirement figure in marketing. A component can satisfy a minimum row while still requiring lower settings. A machine can exceed a recommended row yet produce different results because of its CPU, cooling, power limits, drivers, game version, or settings. Use the publisher’s page to filter candidates, then use exact-hardware testing and the final listing to make the performance and value decision.

- Every intended game is listed and checked against its current requirements page.
- Your resolution, graphics-quality target, and frame-rate objective are written down.
- The exact CPU and GPU models are known.
- GPU VRAM is recorded, especially for Fortnite Epic Quality Presets.
- Installed RAM meets the highest relevant tier; Fortnite and PUBG publish 16 GB recommended figures, while Apex publishes 8 GB recommended.
- The storage type is identified, including NVMe when required by your Fortnite target.
- The operating system matches the game pages and the listing’s delivered configuration.
- Any benchmark used matches the same CPU, GPU, game version, resolution, and settings as closely as possible.
- Upgrade claims are supported by the manufacturer’s documentation, not only by a retailer’s headline.
- You have rechecked the live requirements immediately before ordering.
For most buyers, the safest method is simple: choose the games and settings first, compare the exact components second, and use benchmarks only after the requirement check. That prevents a minimum-spec machine from being mistaken for a high-settings gaming PC and keeps Fortnite’s distinct Epic-quality target from being overlooked.
