For a comfortable day at a gaming convention, pack light: an easy-to-reach ticket or badge information, requested ID, comfortable shoes, a phone charging cable and power bank, and only the activity supplies you expect to use. A reusable water bottle and compact bag can help, but check the specific event and venue rules before bringing food, liquids, batteries, cosplay items, or a large bag.
Pack the essentials you will actually use
Entry details and identification
Save your ticket confirmation, badge details, or entry QR code somewhere you can reach without digging through your bag. Bring the identification your event requires. For example, the 2026 FINAL FANTASY XIV Fan Festival North America guide calls for a ticket confirmation QR code and valid government-issued photo ID; U-Con says photo ID or registration confirmation can help at check-in. Follow your own event’s instructions rather than assuming either policy applies everywhere.

Comfortable footwear
Wear shoes you already know are comfortable for extended walking and standing. PAX organizers put it plainly: “With conventions comes walking.” Avoid making the event the first time you try a new pair.

Bring a charging cable, and consider a portable power bank if you expect a long day or rely on your phone for your ticket, schedule, maps, or messages. PAX recommends a power bank as a backup. Check your event’s battery capacity limits and security requirements before packing one; the Fan Festival guide lists battery rules among the matters attendees should review.

Water, if permitted
A personal reusable bottle can be useful, but bottle rules differ by event and venue. PAX recommends bringing a water bottle. The 2026 Fan Festival guide permits empty reusable plastic or insulated bottles for refills, and the Los Angeles Convention Center permits a personal water bottle. Do not assume that a bottle allowed at one venue is allowed at another.
Payment and activity supplies
Bring a payment method accepted by the venue and the vendors you plan to visit. D23’s guidance, updated August 15, 2026, says the Anaheim Convention Center and Honda Center are cashless facilities, while vendor payment options may vary.

If you plan to play tabletop games, pack only supplies you expect to use. U-Con suggests dice and pencils; its attendee guide also mentions personal snacks and a portable phone charger. These are useful prompts, not a universal convention packing list.

Pack personal medication only as permitted by the event and use it as directed. The Fan Festival rules allow legally obtained prescription medication and properly used over-the-counter medication. U-Con recommends hand washing or sanitizer; check the event’s rules if you plan to bring sanitizer or any other liquid.

A compact, easy-to-screen bag
Choose a small day bag that is easy to carry and inspect. The Fan Festival guide says bags may be screened, recommends keeping a bag no larger than around a standard backpack, and notes that leaving bags at home or at a hotel when possible can speed entry. Treat those details as that event’s guidance, not a standard size limit for every convention.

- Outside food: PAX says outside food is allowed at its event. The Fan Festival rules for the Anaheim Convention Center prohibit outside food and drink, including sealed water bottles, with listed medical and dietary exceptions.
- Bottles and beverages: The Fan Festival permits empty refillable bottles, while the Los Angeles Convention Center permits personal water bottles but not outside food or bulk beverages. D23’s guidance distinguishes the Anaheim Convention Center from Honda Center, where beverage containers are not allowed even if empty.
- Bags and restricted items: Check bag dimensions, screening procedures, and prohibited items. For its event, Fan Festival requires security screening and lists rolling bags, folding chairs, selfie sticks, and functional weapons among prohibited items.
- Batteries, cosplay, and access needs: Look for current requirements covering power banks, cosplay props or accessories, and accessibility accommodations. Do not infer permission from an item being allowed at another convention.
Where a policy lists exceptions, read the event’s full terms to understand what documentation or arrangements may be needed. If a rule is unclear, ask the event or venue before packing the item.

A simple day-bag check
- Open the event’s latest attendee rules and the venue’s visitor information.
- Confirm what you need for entry, including the ticket or badge details and any required ID.
- Check rules for your planned bag, bottle, food, medication, power bank, and any cosplay or activity gear.
- Pack the permitted essentials, then remove items you are unlikely to use. Keep entry details and anything needed at security easy to reach.
