Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Plan for about 8 Mbps of sustained upload bandwidth available to the streaming encoder for one 720p YouTube live stream. If the connection is shared or varies during the day, aim for 10 Mbps or more and test it under the conditions you will actually stream. These are practical planning figures—not guaranteed YouTube thresholds for uninterrupted 24/7 streaming.
How much upload speed does a 720p YouTube stream need?
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends a 6 Mbps video bitrate for 720p at both 30 and 60 frames per second. YouTube also advises leaving 20% room between the stream’s total bitrate and the upload bandwidth available to it. Applying that guidance gives 6 ÷ 0.8 = 7.5 Mbps, rounded to an approximately 8 Mbps planning target.
The target is for available upload bandwidth—the outbound capacity the encoder can use—not the download speed advertised in an internet plan. YouTube says the stream’s total bitrate should not exceed available upload. Its figures are recommendations, not a promise that a connection at a particular speed will remain stable. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance and network streaming tips explain the underlying settings and headroom advice.
Practical targets for one stream
| Situation | Upload bandwidth to plan for | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| One 720p stream, stable and otherwise lightly used connection | About 8 Mbps sustained and available to the encoder | Derived by applying YouTube’s 20% headroom advice to its recommended 6 Mbps 720p video bitrate; not an official minimum. |
| Shared or variable connection | 10 Mbps or more is a sensible target | Extra capacity helps accommodate other traffic and variation, but does not guarantee continuity. |
The 6 Mbps figure is YouTube’s recommended video bitrate. Check the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate, including audio, when assessing the connection; the total must fit within the available upload with room to spare.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up the encoder for 720p
Use YouTube’s current encoder table and the options supported by your streaming software or hardware. The guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 video options, and recommends constant bitrate (CBR). It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Follow the applicable settings in YouTube’s live encoder guidance rather than assuming every encoder exposes identical labels.
- Resolution and frame rate: Set the stream to 720p and use the frame rate that matches the source and intended presentation. YouTube’s recommended 720p bitrate is 6 Mbps at either 30 or 60 fps.
- Bitrate: Use YouTube’s recommended 6 Mbps video bitrate for 720p, and account for audio when checking total outgoing bitrate.
- Rate control: Choose CBR if available, as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Ingest: Use RTMP or RTMPS as supported by the encoder and YouTube setup.
YouTube transcodes an incoming live stream into multiple playback formats, so the creator does not need to send a separate feed for each viewer quality. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes this processing.

Test the connection you will actually use
- Connect the streaming computer by Ethernet if possible. YouTube recommends Ethernet for live streaming from a computer. A wired connection can make the path more reliable, but it does not add ISP bandwidth. See YouTube’s live filming tips.
- Measure upload at the time and on the network path you plan to stream over. YouTube recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate. A result taken at another time, on another device, or under different network load may not represent what the encoder will have available.
- Run an unlisted test with representative content. Include the expected audio and movement like the actual cartoon stream. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream.
- Check stream health while the test is running. Watch for warnings or interruptions rather than relying on the speed-test result alone. YouTube notes that network disruption can break a live stream.
- Repeat under normal household or workplace use. Other devices and traffic can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder; a shared network may limit an individual connection. If performance falls short, reduce competing traffic, improve the local connection, or compare suitable plans available in your area.
For the testing and network guidance, see YouTube’s streaming tips and live filming tips.
What 24/7 operation changes—and what it does not
The reviewed YouTube encoder and network guidance does not specify a different 720p bitrate for a 24/7 stream or for cartoon content. The same 720p setting and upload-headroom calculation apply. Continuous operation does, however, make the reliability of the entire setup important: a bandwidth test does not establish that the ISP line, router, computer, software or power will stay operational continuously. Validate the complete setup and check the service terms and reliability relevant to your location.
