“2 boxing” was a reverse-boosting method reported in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: a player used a second account with poor stats to reach easier lobbies. On December 8, 2024, Insider Gaming reported that players could no longer join someone else’s session after it had entered a pre-game lobby or match. That account is secondary reporting; the official Activision materials reviewed do not confirm the specific change or when it was deployed.
How the reported 2-boxing method worked
In its December 8, 2024 report, Insider Gaming described “2 boxing” as a way to reverse boost. A player used a main account alongside a second account with poor stats, then joined the second account’s session in an effort to enter lower-skilled lobbies—what players often call easier lobbies.

The report described the method and its effect; it did not establish how matchmaking scored the accounts or provide a representative measurement of lobby skill. Its author, Tom Henderson, also shared a personal estimate of lobby composition. That was an anecdotal observation, not a measured or generalizable statistic.
What the reported change did—and what is not confirmed
Insider Gaming reported that players could no longer join another player’s session once that player was in a pre-game lobby or already in a match. If accurate, the restriction closed the particular session-joining route the report described. It did not amount to a documented change to every part of matchmaking.

The outlet said Activision had not announced the change in the patch notes it reviewed. The specific restriction, its deployment date, and its technical implementation are not independently confirmed by the official materials discussed below. Treyarch’s October 8, 2025 Black Ops 6 Season 06 patch notes list other fixes, including a Liberty Falls Zombies exploit, but do not mention this session-joining change. That later omission does not establish when the reported restriction went live.
What Activision’s rules say about boosting
Activision’s September 26, 2024 End User License Agreement prohibits unauthorized software used to gain an advantage and includes cheating, boosting, or booting among conduct that may be sanctioned at Activision’s discretion. Separately, Team RICOCHET’s Black Ops 6 launch report says: “Cheating also includes account sharing to unlock gear, using software to get access to items you haven’t earned or purchased, and account boosting.”

Those materials establish Activision’s general position on boosting; they do not make a specific official finding that the session-joining behavior reported in December 2024 was cheating under a particular enforcement action. The launch report also distinguishes its definition of cheating from abuse of in-game glitches, so its wording should not be treated as a direct classification of this reported exploit.

In an August 6, 2025 Season 05 update, Team RICOCHET said it had introduced dedicated detection tools for Boosting and Teaming in Ranked Play and was conducting deeper leaderboard analysis across Black Ops 6 and Warzone. It described boosting services that use low-effort accounts to farm XP or challenges, and said boosting is against policy. The update states: “We focus our enforcement on deliberate cheating behavior and Boosting is no exception.”

This is later, official enforcement context—not confirmation of the 2024 session-joining restriction. The 2025 announcement concerns detection in Ranked Play and leaderboard analysis; the 2024 report concerns joining a session after it reached a particular lobby state. The sources do not establish that the later tools caused, implemented, or replaced the earlier reported change.
