The trailer shown at The Game Awards 2025 revealed Divinity, a new Larian Studios game set in Rivellon. But the official announcement and game page do not explain who the trailer’s figures are or what its events mean. The honest answer is that the footage raises questions; it is not a confirmed scene-by-scene lore guide.
What Larian has confirmed about the trailer
Larian announced a brand-new game titled Divinity during The Game Awards 2025. It is set in Rivellon, the world associated with the studio’s Divinity series. The game’s official page sets an ominous mood with the tagline: “The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers stir.” (Larian’s official Divinity page; Larian’s press page.)
That is useful context, but it is not a plot synopsis. The official materials do not identify the figures shown in the trailer, explain the events depicted, or state how the sequence connects to the game’s story. Without that confirmation, a visual detail can prompt a theory but cannot establish a canonical explanation.
What the trailer’s imagery means—and what remains theory
There is no authoritative scene-by-scene explanation in the announcement or official game-page information covered here. That means there is no confirmed answer to questions such as who a particular figure represents, whether a scene depicts a specific event from Rivellon’s history, or what the trailer’s imagery predicts for the plot.

Fans can still compare the footage with lore from earlier games and offer interpretations. The important distinction is attribution: unless Larian confirms a reading, call it a fan theory, not what the trailer “reveals.” The tagline suggests conflict and change, but it does not identify their cause or resolve the imagery.
Do you need to replay the older Divinity games?
No. Larian says players do not need prior experience with its games to play the new Divinity. The studio says people familiar with Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 can enjoy greater understanding and continuity. That makes the earlier games optional context, not prerequisites; the announcement does not say that replaying them will decode the reveal trailer.

In a PC Gamer interview published 16 December 2025, Larian founder Swen Vincke described the game as turn-based and said it uses a new ruleset built on lessons from the studio’s previous games. These are development statements, not a detailed mechanics guide or a promise about every finished feature.
