What happened in the GTA 6 leak?
On September 18, 2022, a user posting as “teapotuberhacker” shared development footage on GTAForums, according to contemporary reporting. News coverage described about 90 videos, or roughly 50 minutes of material; those are reporters’ descriptions of the circulated clips, not a tally published by Rockstar.

Rockstar confirmed that an unauthorized third party had accessed and downloaded confidential information from its systems, including early-development footage. In a statement reproduced by IGN, the company said: “We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way.”

What did the leaked footage show?
The clips were described as work-in-progress gameplay and development scenes, with unfinished elements visible. They showed material from a game still in development, not a completed or representative release build. As a result, they cannot establish what the final game’s mechanics, story, visual quality, or other content would be.

Does the 2022 leak represent the current game?
No. The footage was from an early stage of development in 2022, so it should not be treated as a final build or as proof of the game’s eventual features. For current product information, Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page describes a single-player experience for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and provides preorder information. That current product information is separate from what the leaked development clips showed.
Rockstar had publicly said development was underway before the breach; its 2022 development announcement provides that background, but does not establish how the intrusion occurred.
