A temporary NBCUniversal webpage listing in May 2025 called the next Mario movie Super Mario World. Nintendo later announced its official title: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The earlier listing was removed, and the available reporting does not establish who posted it or why.
What was the movie accidentally called?
NBCUniversal’s upcoming-films webpage briefly listed Super Mario World, according to Nintendo Life’s report published May 14, 2025. The reference was removed shortly afterward. The report treated the name as an apparent title at the time and noted it could change.

That listing is evidence of the wording that appeared on the webpage, not confirmation that the film was based on the Super Mario World game. The reviewed reporting does not identify who entered the text or explain whether it was accidental, premature, or otherwise.
What is the official title?
Nintendo announced The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on September 12, 2025. That is the official title, not Super Mario World. Nintendo’s Direct announcement also said the worldwide release would begin April 3, 2026.

When did it release?
Nintendo’s current U.S. movie page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists the film as “Only in Theaters” and gives April 1, 2026 as its theatrical date. That is the U.S. page’s listed date; Nintendo’s earlier announcement described April 3 as the start of the worldwide release. The two dates refer to differently framed claims, so neither should be presented as a replacement for the other.

Nintendo announced a physical Nintendo Switch collection combining Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, alongside individual digital versions of the games. The announcement also included an illustrated hardcover Rosalina’s Storybook. These are Galaxy-related game and book products, not the movie itself; the announcement does not establish them as movie tie-ins. See Nintendo’s September 2025 announcement for the product details.
