In its October 6, 2024 “A New Dawn” announcement, Halo Studios said it had multiple projects in development using Unreal Engine 5, but did not specify their formats. It also clarified that Project Foundry was a research and development effort and training tool—not a game or tech demo.
What is the next announced Halo game?
Halo: Campaign Evolved is announced as a ground-up remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. It is planned for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 in 2026. The announcement describes a campaign remake; it does not identify the game as a standalone multiplayer release or a live-service title. What did Xbox say about Activision developing Halo?
In a September 22, 2026 Xbox corporate update, Xbox said Activision would develop the next Halo title with a new purpose-built team separate from ongoing Call of Duty development. The statement did not give the title, release window, genre, or service model. It therefore identifies a development assignment, not a live-service announcement.
Why live service is plausible—but not established
Halo has used this model before. In its official Halo Infinite multiplayer reveal, the studio described that game’s free-to-play multiplayer as a live service, saying it was “committed to partnering with players to evolve the game together.” That is evidence of Halo Infinite’s approach, not proof that a future title will repeat it.

What remains unknown
The announcements do not establish whether there is a separate, unannounced standalone multiplayer project, whether any future multiplayer would be live-service, or what its release plans might be. They also do not confirm that Halo: Campaign Evolved includes multiplayer. Until Xbox or Halo makes a specific announcement, claims about those details should be treated as unconfirmed rather than fact.
