Halo multiplayer does not currently run in a standard web browser through any official route that this article could confirm. The one browser-run Halo game reported so far is an unofficial community project: a rendition of the original Halo: Combat Evolved that PC Gamer covered on October 1, 2026. The two official ways to reach Halo Infinite multiplayer without a traditional install are different things. One is Xbox Cloud Gaming, which streams the game and carries its own membership and purchase conditions. The other is the free installed multiplayer game. The “Custom Game Browser” in Halo Infinite is an in-game menu, not a web page.
Three different things people mean by “browser Halo”
Searches for browser-based Halo mix together three separate things. Work out which one you are looking for before you spend time or money on any of them.
1. A community port of Halo: Combat Evolved
PC Gamer reported on October 1, 2026 that a developer had made the original Halo: Combat Evolved playable in a web browser. According to that report, players can share a room link to join the same session, the sessions use peer-to-peer hosting, and mouse and keyboard controls work. Peer-to-peer hosting means one player’s connection carries the session rather than a dedicated Microsoft server, so the host’s connection quality matters.
Several points are not established by the available reporting:
#1 Best Overall
- Master Chief ready for action: This iconic Halo character stands eight inches tall in his signature green armor, poised to protect and display your gaming devices with commanding presence
- Heavy duty construction: Sturdy PVC figure with reinforced circular base designed to securely hold phones, controllers, and remotes without tipping or wobbling during gameplay
- Versatile device holder: Easily accommodates most smartphones, Xbox and PlayStation controllers, business cards, eBook readers, and other hand-held items for multi-purpose functionality
- Official Xbox licensed collectible: Authentically styled Master Chief figure featuring detailed battle-worn armor and gold visor brings genuine Halo franchise appeal to your gaming setup
- Perfect gaming gift: Essential collectible for Halo enthusiasts and Xbox gamers who want to combine fandom expression with practical desk organization and display value
- Official status. This is an unofficial project. Nothing in the coverage shows that Microsoft or Halo Studios released it.
- Player count. The report quotes a 128-player feature as untested. Treat that number as a claim, not a demonstrated capacity.
- Where it lives. The coverage does not establish a verified, current, live destination. Browser projects of this kind can be taken down or moved without notice.
- Safety and legality. Neither the security of the project nor its legal standing has been established.
2. Halo Infinite streamed through Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox lists Halo Infinite on Xbox Cloud Gaming. In the US listing, cloud play requires a Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate membership and a purchase of the game. The listing identifies controller play as supported. Because streaming entitlements and regional availability change, check the Xbox listing for your country and your membership tier before you buy or subscribe.
3. Halo Infinite’s Custom Game Browser
Despite the name, the Custom Game Browser (CGB) is a feature inside Halo Infinite. It lists active custom matches that players can join while they are in progress. It does not queue you for a future session. Forge maps and modes are supported, and Halo Support says sessions allow up to 24 players and four observers. Only matches that are currently joinable appear in the list. You need the game itself to use it, so it is not a way to play Halo without running Halo.

How the three options compare
| Option | How it runs | What you need | How multiplayer works | Input | Confidence level |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Community Halo: Combat Evolved port | Reportedly in a web browser | Access to a project link that is not verified here | Room link with peer-to-peer hosting, as reported | Mouse and keyboard, as reported | Unofficial; based on one news report |
| Halo Infinite on Xbox Cloud Gaming | Streamed from Xbox servers | Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, plus a game purchase (US listing) | Xbox’s official Halo Infinite multiplayer | Controller listed; other input not stated in the listing | Official listing; terms can change |
| Installed Halo Infinite multiplayer | Downloaded and run on a supported platform | Free to download and play; Game Pass not required | Official multiplayer, including Custom Game Browser and Forge maps | Not stated in Halo Support’s overview | Official Halo Support documentation |
Free installed multiplayer versus cloud streaming
Halo Support states: “Halo Infinite multiplayer can be downloaded and played for free on all available platforms.” That sentence covers downloading and playing the multiplayer game. It does not change the separate conditions Xbox lists for cloud play. If you want to avoid paying for anything, the installed route is the one Halo Support describes as free. If you want to avoid installing the game, cloud streaming is the official route, and it comes with the membership and purchase requirements above.
Forge is an in-game tool, not a browser client
Forge is the in-game creation suite for multiplayer maps and modes. Halo Support says player-made Forge maps can be played with others through Custom Games, and that Forge is part of the free-to-play Halo Infinite multiplayer experience. Forge does not give you a browser version of Halo.

- Features artwork created by Bungie, inspired by "Halo: Reach," the blockbuster prequel to the award-winning "Halo" trilogy
- Features all the functionality of the award-winning Wireless Controller while fitting in perfectly within the Halo: Reach mythology
- Includes a token for a Banshee aircraft Avatar item
Input: controller or keyboard and mouse
No input method is mandatory across the options. The Xbox cloud listing names controller play. The PC Gamer report says mouse and keyboard work with the community port. A controller is therefore a useful choice for cloud play, but it is not a requirement for any of the three routes.

- Decide which of the three options you actually mean: the community port, cloud streaming, or the installed game with its in-game browser.
- For the community port, rely on the PC Gamer report rather than links or search results that claim to host it. Treat any link you find elsewhere as unverified, and do not run files from pages you cannot confirm.
- For cloud streaming, open the Xbox listing for your country, confirm the Game Pass tier and purchase requirement, and check that your device supports the stream.
- For the installed game, confirm that your platform is one of the supported platforms in Halo Support’s overview.
- Plan for the official limits: up to 24 players and four observers in Custom Game Browser sessions.
Browser-based Halo multiplayer is currently a story about one unofficial, unverified community project. The official routes are cloud streaming with conditions and the installed game, which is free to download and play.
