The Dead Island 2 Expansion Pass unlocks two story expansions, Haus and SoLA, along with a bonus premium Character Pack and immediate access to Red’s Demise Katana. It does not include the free Patch 6 features, Neighborhood Watch and New Game+, which the publisher presents as free content available to all players.
What the pass unlocks
According to the publisher’s pass description from Deep Silver and the Dead Island team, the Expansion Pass covers two full story expansions. Each one adds a new setting, new enemies or weapons, and new gameplay elements on top of the base game.
- Haus, the first story expansion
- SoLA, the second story expansion
- A bonus premium Character Pack, which the pass summary names as a bonus but whose exact name is not given in the summary we reviewed
- Red’s Demise Katana, available immediately once you own the pass
Haus: the Malibu villa story
Haus is set in a surreal psycho-horror dreamscape built around a mysterious villa in Malibu and a cult called the Kult. The official Haus page describes a new location, a set of slaying tools, and eight new Skill Cards.
The tools named on the page are the K-ROSSBOW and the Hog Roaster. If you want the expansion’s gear to affect your build, the Skill Cards are the part to read closely, since they change how your character plays rather than just adding a new weapon to the inventory.

Because SoLA introduces both enemy types and weapons, it works as a self-contained addition rather than a minor set of items. Players who want only one of the two stories can judge by the setting and the enemy list above.

Bonus content and the Red’s Demise Katana
The pass includes a bonus premium Character Pack and gives immediate access to Red’s Demise Katana. The Katana is available as soon as you own the pass, so you do not need to finish either story expansion to get it.
The exact name and contents of the Character Pack are not stated in the pass summary we reviewed. Check the store listing for your platform before purchase, since the listing is where the specific bonus item and any platform-specific terms will appear.

What is not part of the pass
Neighborhood Watch, a cooperative horde mode, and New Game+ are not part of the Expansion Pass. The publisher describes them as features of Patch 6, which is free for both existing and new players. Patch 6 also includes other game changes. Owning the pass does not add these features, and you do not need the pass to access them.
How the pass compares with Ultimate Edition
The publisher also sells Dead Island 2: Ultimate Edition, which it describes as including the base game, both story expansions, weapon packs, and Slayer character packs. The table below compares the three options using only what the publisher’s pages state.

- A World of Possibility - Build your future in a town steeped in history. Nordhaven is the perfect place to pursue the things you care most about, like creative and inspiring hobbies. Sims can attend Meetups to mix and mingle with those who are passionate about the same hobbies – they may even find someone to mentor them in their favorite skill. Sims can become mentors at high skill levels, or they can build their legacy by hosting Classes and Lectures. Listening to a Lecture is one of the ways a Sim may earn Mastery Perks. Hobbies are best when shared, so explore the new neighborhoods of Gammelvik and Iverstad to meet like-minded Sims!

The pass suits players who already own the base game and want the two story expansions. Ultimate Edition makes more sense for players who do not own the base game.
