What Riot has confirmed is an organizational step: separate animation and live-action studios, each with a named lead, and a stated intention to tell more stories in Runeterra. The next title, its setting, its release window and its distributor are not announced in the official material covered here. The most recent Riot and Netflix announcements used for this update are dated October 2025, so anything announced after that is not reflected below.
Arcane’s story is complete, but Riot’s plans for Runeterra are not
Netflix identifies season two as the final season of Arcane. In a November 26, 2024 Netflix Tudum piece, co-creator Christian Linke said the story wraps with that season, and in the same breath described Arcane as “just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.” Those two statements belong together. The show’s ending closes one narrative, but it is not an announcement that Riot is leaving the setting.
Both Arcane seasons were listed as streaming on Netflix in that same November 2024 guide. Catalogs change by region and over time, so confirm current availability in your country before relying on it.
How Riot has organized its TV and film work
In an August 15, 2024 company announcement, Riot said its television and film development would run through two distinct studios. Each has its own lead and its own remit:
#1 Best Overall
| Studio | Named lead | Remit as Riot described it | What is confirmed about the work |
|---|---|---|---|
| Animation | Christian Linke | Build on Arcane, working with Fortiche Production | The remit is defined; no specific next animated title is named in the official sources reviewed. |
| Live action | Brian Wright | Develop a slate of potential projects based on Riot’s existing lore and narrative | Development is described only as potential projects; no title, setting, characters, release date or platform is confirmed. |
Riot CEO Dylan Jadeja framed the strategy in the same announcement: “We want every moment a player spends with us to be worth it – and that’s best achieved when we authentically blend our games, esports, music and storytelling into really cohesive, immersive adventures for them.” That sentence describes the intent behind the studios. It does not identify what they will produce.
What the “slate of potential projects” does and does not establish
The phrase confirms that development work is happening at a broad level. It does not establish the rest. Readers should not treat the following as settled based on Riot’s official wording:
Rank #2
- Factory sealed DVD
- That any particular show or film has been greenlit.
- Where a future project would be set, or which characters it would follow.
- When anything would be released, or on which service.
- How many projects the slate contains.
Reports about regions, project counts or characters circulate among fans, but they are not confirmed by the official announcements cited here, and they should be read as speculation.
Fan engagement continued into late 2025
On October 6, 2025, Riot announced an online Arcane anniversary program. It included behind-the-scenes episodes and AMAs, along with merchandise restocks and new merchandise from Riot and its partners. The announced episode dates were November 10, 17 and 24, 2025, all of which have now passed.

- Food Wars! The Fifth Plate - Limited Edition Premium Box Set [Blu-Ray]
That program shows Riot is still investing in its existing audience. It is not evidence that a new narrative production is underway, and it should not be read that way.
Recognition for Arcane
Netflix reported that Arcane won four Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022, including Outstanding Animated Program, and nine Annie Award wins in 2022. These awards explain why the series carries weight for Riot’s television ambitions, but they say nothing about whether another project has been commissioned or scheduled.
Rank #4
- New release from Crunchyroll
How to tell when a real next project has been announced
Because Riot’s wording so far has been deliberately general, a genuine announcement will usually contain specific details. Look for:
- A named title, rather than “a slate of potential projects.”
- A stated setting or characters, confirmed by Riot.
- A release window or a platform or distributor.
- A statement from the named studio lead, Christian Linke for animation or Brian Wright for live action.
Check Riot’s own company announcements and Netflix’s Tudum pages first. Treat secondhand reports as unconfirmed until one of those sources repeats the details.
Best Value
Until a named project appears in those sources, the honest answer to “what is Riot making next?” is that Riot has organized the work and described its intent, but has not yet said what it will be.
