What the SoLA expansion adds
SoLA is Dead Island 2‘s second story expansion. It takes Slayers to a Californian music festival built on ancient grounds, where an uncanny rhythm draws festivalgoers toward an otherworldly threat. The story unfolds among the festival’s ruins. Steam’s description of SoLA frames the setting and central menace.

Official launch coverage highlighted the Whipper and Clotter, two new Apex Variants, and the legendary Ripper and Saw Blade Launcher. These are examples of the additions promoted at launch, not a complete inventory of the expansion’s content. PlayStation Blog’s launch coverage discusses the variants; Xbox Wire’s announcement highlights the weapons.
What you need to play SoLA
SoLA is downloadable content, not a standalone game. The Steam listing says it requires the base game, Dead Island 2. Steam’s Expansion Pass listing says the pass includes both the Haus and SoLA story expansions and also requires the base game. SoLA on Steam and the Expansion Pass on Steam describe those requirements and contents.

If you are deciding how to acquire it, the relevant distinction is the standalone SoLA DLC versus the Expansion Pass, which bundles SoLA with Haus. Check your platform’s current regional store listing for price and availability; those details can change.
