Helldivers 2’s Battle for Cyberstan began on February 10, 2026, with the launch of the Machinery of Oppression update. The campaign sent players into Cyberstan’s factory cities to disrupt Cyborg production and Automaton defenses, while every Helldiver death counted against a finite shared reinforcement limit. This is a retrospective launch explainer, not an announcement of a new October 2026 launch.
What the Battle for Cyberstan was
Arrowhead Game Studios announced Machinery of Oppression as live on February 10, 2026. The accompanying Xbox Wire announcement also said the update was available that day on Xbox Series X|S. The campaign’s premise was that Automatons had seized schematics for the Star of Peace and were acting under the Cyborg Legion’s direction. Helldivers were sent to Cyberstan’s massive factory cities, where the community would choose cities to destroy and clear their buildings. PlayStation.Blog’s launch announcement and Xbox Wire’s same-day post establish the launch timing.

What players were asked to do
The announced mission goals centered on stopping further Cyborg production and compromising Automaton defenses. Factory destruction and the toppling of symbolic statues were also called out as objectives. The city-clearing effort was framed as a collective campaign, rather than a single mission with a fixed one-squad outcome.

- Agitators: Armored field commanders who direct Automaton forces and can take control of enemy squads.
- Cyborg Radicals: Close-range attackers equipped with cybernetic and biological enhancements.
- Vox Engine: A war machine piloted by a high-ranking Cyborg officer, armed with dual laser cannons, rockets, and laser gatlings.
Why deaths mattered to the campaign
The operation introduced a shared, finite Galactic Reinforcement Counter. As Arrowhead community manager Katherine Baskin put it in the launch post, “Every death will be counted in the Battle for Cyberstan, using a Galactic Reinforcement Counter marking the finite number of Helldivers able to be deployed.” If the counter reached zero, Super Earth would lose the battle. The announced guidance emphasized completing objectives while keeping Helldivers alive, including using defensive stratagems and stimming squadmates. The announcement did not give a numeric reserve total, so there is no launch figure to report here.
Launch gear and later access context
The February launch announcement paired the update with the Siege Breakers Warbond, which included the G/SH-39 Shield, and said the War Horses armor set would be purchasable in the Superstore. Those were launch-context additions; the announcement did not say either item was required to participate or superior for the campaign.

For platform and access context, Xbox Wire confirmed availability on Xbox Series X|S on February 10, 2026. Later, PlayStation.Blog said the game joined the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members on August 12, 2026, noting that catalog and streaming availability can vary by region. No. The documented launch was February 10, 2026. Later PlayStation announcements covered other content: Devoid of Liberty and the Illuminate Void in August, followed by the Ironclad Democracy Warbond in September. They do not announce a new Cyberstan launch. Because the Galactic War can change over time, these launch posts also do not establish whether Cyberstan missions or a particular counter state are available now. The September announcement concerns the Ironclad Democracy Warbond, not a Cyberstan relaunch.
