Nova Drift left Early Access and launched as version 1.0 on August 12, 2024. The release added a final boss and campaign ending, along with new options, cosmetics, localization, and extensive balance and bug-fix work. The game has continued to receive updates since then; the developer has also described DLC and console plans, but those plans do not yet amount to confirmed release dates.
When did Nova Drift leave Early Access?
Nova Drift reached version 1.0 on August 12, 2024, ending an Early Access period that began on Steam on March 27, 2019. The developer announced the date in July 2024, describing the path from a 2014 prototype to the full release as a ten-year journey. Its August 12 announcement said 1.0 was available on Steam, itch.io, novadrift.io, and Nexus. Developer release announcement; Steam store page.
What did Nova Drift 1.0 add?
The defining addition was a final boss and an ending sequence. Players encounter the ending with Endless mode disabled. Endless mode becomes available after the first defeat of the final boss, so the campaign ending does not mean runs must stop there: players can continue with endless play afterward.
New options and customization
- Assist Mode and High-Visibility mode added options for adjusting play and visual clarity.
- Custom body and drone skins arrived, including three skin sets and support for player-created skins.
- German localization was added.
Sound, performance, and game-wide refinements
The release added four music tracks to complete the soundtrack and included texture compression. The developer also reported several hundred balance changes, bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements. What kind of game is Nova Drift?
Nova Drift is a single-player action game from developer Chimeric and publisher Pixeljam. Its central idea combines arcade-style space combat with action-RPG build crafting: during randomly generated runs, players assemble and customize a ship through modular upgrades. Where can you play it, and what controls are supported?
PC and Steam Deck
Steam lists full controller support and Steam Deck Verified status. It also lists single-player play, Steam Cloud, achievements, leaderboards, and Family Sharing. Steam store page.
iOS and Android
The developer says mobile versions are available for iOS and Android, with customizable touch controls, gamepad support, and performance optimized for mobile. Premium is the full game; Lite is a free demo limited to wave 60, with restricted unlocks. The developer says neither version contains ads or in-app purchases. Is Nova Drift still being updated?
Yes, according to the developer’s update history: the end of Early Access was not presented as the end of maintenance. The announcement feed captured for this article lists version 1.2.38.2 as an update with gameplay adjustments, enemy changes, quality-of-life additions, aesthetic adjustments, and bug fixes. That version number is a dated reference, not a claim that it remains the latest; check the Steam announcements feed for newer updates. The developer has described Nova Drift: Weapon Mutations DLC as in development, with alternate versions of the game’s weapons planned. No confirmed launch date is stated in the announcement.

The same announcement says the team hopes to launch console ports around Q4 2026. That is an expressed target, not a guaranteed date: platform requirements and approvals can affect timing, and the announcement does not provide a confirmed launch day or a complete platform-by-platform schedule.
