Erangel Classic returned to PUBG: Battlegrounds in 2024, but not on the same dates for every platform. PC players got it first in Normal Match on May 14, followed by console players on May 23. After its Normal Match run ended, PUBG extended access through Arcade on both platforms.
When was Erangel Classic available in PUBG?
PUBG’s April 24, 2024 announcement set separate service windows for PC and console. The dates below are UTC; each Normal Match window began after that platform’s live server maintenance.
| Platform and mode | 2024 availability (UTC) |
|---|---|
| PC Normal Match | May 14 after maintenance–May 28 at 7 AM |
| Console Normal Match | May 23 after maintenance–June 6 at 7 AM |
| PC Custom Match | May 14 after maintenance–June 12 before maintenance |
| Console Custom Match | May 23 after maintenance–June 20 before maintenance |
During the featured Normal Match period, Erangel Classic replaced the regular Erangel map. PUBG’s Update 29.2 notes say it was selectable in all regions and supported the same party types and perspectives as Normal Match. Custom Match access continued beyond the Normal Match end date. PUBG’s April 24 announcement and the Update 29.2 patch notes provide the schedule and mode details.
Arcade extension dates
After the Normal Match windows ended, PUBG made Erangel Classic available in Arcade for an additional period:

What was different about Erangel Classic?
Erangel Classic was a nostalgia-focused version of the map and its presentation, not a restoration of an old game build. PUBG described the goal as preserving the earlier map’s “essence” while keeping gameplay familiar to current players. The announcement highlighted retro visuals and interface elements alongside gameplay changes.

Classic atmosphere and interface
The event brought back Early Access-era presentation, including the world map, minimap, Blue Zone UI, match start timer, and kill and survival UI. The announcement also mentioned vintage fonts and graphics. Team numbers, the screen ping marker, and waypoints remained available.
The announcement referred to foggy and rainy conditions, while the more specific Update 29.2 notes list the event’s available weather as sunny, sunset, and overcast. Weapons appeared on wooden tables on the starting islands. Secret Rooms and the Recall system were unavailable.

Weapons, armor, and combat changes
Recoil was reduced, but PUBG explicitly said it was not identical to the old recoil. Update 29.2 specified reductions of 30% in horizontal and vertical recoil for assault rifles and SMGs, and 20% for DMRs, LMGs, and shotguns. Sniper rifles, handguns, and the crossbow were excluded from the recoil change.
The patch notes also said armor performance increased by 7.5% for all armor, with the shots to kill for all firearms expected to increase by approximately one. That is a balance change described by PUBG, not a guarantee that every encounter would require exactly one additional shot.

- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
The Tommy Gun moved to Care Packages and was removed from world spawn. Its default drum magazine held 100 rounds, with its reload speed adjusted accordingly. A level 3 helmet and 17 classic skins could spawn as ground loot; clothes and helmets on the ground were among the throwbacks highlighted in the announcement.
Vehicles and other rule changes
A Flare Gun produced a bulletproof UAZ rather than a BRDM, and fixed vehicle spawn locations were unavailable. These details, as well as the combat and interface changes, are set out in the Update 29.2 patch notes.
