- Old store pages: cached or stale Microsoft Store listings may still show $29.99 Ultimate or $16.49 PC Game Pass. Those figures should not override the later April 2026 announcement without live checkout verification.
- Regional notices: a pricing email or store page for another country may not apply to U.S. subscribers—or to your own market.
- Plan changes: renamed tiers and benefit changes can look like price changes even when the subscription price itself has not changed.

Which Game Pass plans were affected by the April 2026 announcement?

Call of Duty is changing even though two prices went down
The April 2026 announcement included a significant benefit-timing change. Beginning in 2026, new Call of Duty titles will no longer be added to Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch. Xbox said those games would be added during the following holiday season, approximately a year later.
That is not a guaranteed fixed date for every release. “About a year later” and “the following holiday season” leave the precise timing dependent on the individual Call of Duty title. The announcement also did not remove existing Call of Duty games already in the Game Pass library.
How to check your own next Game Pass charge
- Open account.microsoft.com/services.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account used for your Game Pass subscription.
- Find the Game Pass entry and confirm the current plan name.
- Check the next billing or renewal date.
- Check the renewal price and whether recurring billing is enabled.
Use the amount shown on your account as the practical source of truth. It may differ from the U.S. examples above because of currency, taxes, regional pricing, promotional terms, a legacy rate, prepaid time, or account-specific offers. A promotional price—such as an introductory offer—is not necessarily the regular renewal price.

Xbox says recurring subscriptions renew at the then-current regular price after a promotion unless canceled. Its subscription language also says price increases may be made with at least 30 days’ notice under the applicable store terms. Should you stay on Ultimate or choose another plan?
Stay with Ultimate if you value day-one games and bundled benefits
Ultimate remains the strongest fit if you play across Xbox console, PC, and cloud, want the broadest advertised catalog, or value day-one releases. It also includes EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics, and Xbox’s highest cloud-streaming tier. The April 2026 U.S. price announced by Xbox was $22.99 per month, but verify the live amount for your account and region.
Choose Premium if waiting up to a year is acceptable
Premium is the downgrade to consider when you want a large multi-device catalog, cloud gaming, and online console multiplayer but do not need Xbox-published games on day one. Its main trade-off is timing: those games arrive within one year of launch, rather than immediately, and Premium does not include every Ultimate benefit.
Choose Essential for basic console access
Essential may be enough if your priority is online console multiplayer, a smaller selection of games, cloud access, and in-game benefits. It is not the right choice if day-one releases or the largest catalog are the reason you subscribe.
Choose PC Game Pass for Windows PC-only gaming
PC Game Pass is suited to Windows PC players who want day-one PC releases and EA Play without paying for console-focused benefits. How to prevent an unwanted renewal
If your goal is to keep access through the period you have already paid for while avoiding the next charge, turn off recurring billing before the next billing date. You can manage this through the Microsoft Services page and, where supported, through the console.
Turning off recurring billing is not always the same as immediately ending access. The account page will show whether the subscription remains active until the end of the paid term. If you cancel or request a refund, eligibility depends on the transaction and local rules.
Xbox says a refund may be available for the most recent recurring-billing charge if the subscription is canceled within 30 days, but this is limited to one time per Microsoft account per subscription product. That policy does not guarantee a refund for every cancellation.
