The Elder Scrolls VI has no announced release date or launch window. Bethesda’s July 2026 update says the game is its primary development focus, with most of the studio working on it and the team playing it every day—but the studio has not tied that progress to a release year.
Has Bethesda announced an Elder Scrolls 6 release date?
No. Bethesda’s official game listing says the anticipated release date is “To be announced.” It provides no launch year, month, or window. Bethesda’s listing is the clearest official reference for the date status.
What is Bethesda saying about the game’s progress?
In a July 2026 studio update, Bethesda Game Studios said The Elder Scrolls VI is its primary development focus and that most of the team is working on it. The studio added: “The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day.” This indicates the team is actively working on and playing the game, but it is not a launch commitment. Bethesda’s July 2026 statement also says the game is being developed on Creation Engine 3, which Bethesda is using for Fallout 5 as well.
What have Xbox leaders said about a reveal?
In June 2026, Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty said he had visited Bethesda, sat with Todd Howard, and seen the game being played. He described it as “coming along well” and said Bethesda would reveal it at the “right time.” Booty did not announce a reveal date or release window. His comments are an executive’s impression of progress, not a timetable. PC Gamer reported Booty’s remarks.

Is Elder Scrolls 6 still years away?
There is no confirmed number of years to give. Bethesda has not announced a launch year or window, and statements that the game is the studio’s main focus or is being played daily do not establish when it will ship. Likewise, the June 2018 announcement described the game as being in pre-production at that time; that is historical context, not its current development status. Bethesda’s July 2026 update is the more recent studio description, while the 2018 announcement records the original reveal.
Did Xbox layoffs change the roadmap?
GamesRadar reported on July 23, 2026, that Bethesda responded to a question about layoffs and the game’s schedule: “No, the roadmap is unaffected.” That addresses the reported effect on the roadmap; it does not provide a public ship date or guarantee that future plans cannot change. What has not been announced?
The official information cited here does not establish a full reveal date, setting, platforms, price, or preorder availability. Treat purported dates or windows as speculation unless Bethesda or Xbox announces them through an official channel. The studio’s July 2026 update also cited Skyrim reaching 65 million copies sold and players continuing to explore it 15 years later; those are franchise context, not indicators of The Elder Scrolls VI’s development duration or launch timing. Bethesda’s statement contains those figures.

If you want to return to Tamriel, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the previous mainline game Bethesda cited in its July 2026 update. That makes it a natural series revisit, but it does not signal when the next chapter will arrive.
