The new Fable is currently listed for February 23, 2027—not 2025. Xbox first moved the game’s announced 2025 target to 2026, then set a February 2027 date. Playground Games is developing it as an open-world action RPG set in a rebooted version of Albion.
When does the new Fable release?
Xbox’s current Fable product page lists February 23, 2027. Xbox Wire announced that date in June 2026 and reiterated it in an August 2026 update. The Premium Edition is listed with early access beginning February 18, 2027.

The release target has changed more than once. Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan said the previously announced 2025 release was moving to 2026. In January 2026, Xbox described an autumn 2026 window. The June announcement then set the date for February 23, 2027. The official announcements establish this sequence, but do not explain the later move to 2027.
What kind of Fable game is it?
Xbox describes Fable as an open-world action RPG developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is a reboot and a new beginning, rather than a continuation of the original trilogy’s timeline. Fable general manager and game director Ralph Fulton has described the reboot as a deliberate decision to build Playground’s own version of Albion.

Xbox’s announced features include a customizable Hero, melee, ranged and magical combat, and a world populated by villagers. Choices and reputation are intended to affect relationships with those characters and potentially the wider world. Xbox also described a refreshed morality system and living NPC population in its January 2026 developer deep dive. These are announced features, not claims based on hands-on play.
Which platforms will Fable be on?
The current Xbox product page lists Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10/11. Xbox’s January 2026 announcement also named Xbox Cloud, Steam and PlayStation 5; PlayStation separately announced a PS5 version. Because the current Xbox listing is narrower than that earlier platform announcement, check the relevant storefront for current regional availability and purchase details.
