Xenoblade Chronicles 3 version 2.2.1, released June 3, 2025, includes gameplay adjustments for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo does not specify a resolution, frame rate, or measured performance improvement for this update. It is separate from the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
What did the June 2025 update change?
Nintendo’s version 2.2.1 notes say: “Several adjustments have been made to improve gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2.” That is the full extent of the published technical detail: Nintendo does not identify particular changes or give a resolution target, frame-rate target, or quantified performance gain. The notes also say save data remains available after installing the update. Nintendo’s update history covers Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED.

How to download version 2.2.1
If your console is online and Software Auto-Updates is enabled, the update downloads and installs automatically. You can also connect to the internet and download it manually:
- Connect your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch system to the internet.
- Download the available software update for Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
- Install it, then start the game. Nintendo says your save data remains usable after the update.
How the update differs from the Switch 2 Edition
Version 2.2.1 is an update to the Nintendo Switch game; it is not the separately listed Switch 2 Edition. Nintendo UK lists the Edition’s release date as December 3, 2026, which is after October 8, 2026. Nintendo says owners of the Nintendo Switch game can purchase an upgrade pack to play the Edition. Its advertised features should not be treated as changes included in version 2.2.1.

What Switch 2 players should expect
The confirmed takeaway is limited but clear: Nintendo released an update with adjustments intended to improve gameplay on Switch 2. The published notes do not establish how much performance changed or provide a measured before-and-after comparison. The Edition’s listed 4K, 60 fps, and added-content features belong to that separate release, not to version 2.2.1.
