Current Call of Duty: Warzone has no announced shutdown date. Activision’s Warzone support hub still lists the current game as of October 8, 2026, with support articles updated as recently as September 25, 2026. The shutdown people often hear about is Warzone Caldera, which closed on September 21, 2023, and did not affect the current game.
Whether Warzone is down at any given moment is a live question that a static article cannot settle. Activision’s Online Services checker is the place to confirm it, and the steps below explain how to read the result and what to try if the service looks healthy.
Warzone Caldera and current Warzone are separate
Most “is Warzone shutting down” searches trace back to Caldera, the earlier version of the game’s free-to-play experience. Activision’s Caldera Sunset FAQ states that Call of Duty: Warzone and all other Call of Duty games are separate experiences and were not affected by the Caldera shutdown.
| Item | Warzone Caldera | Current Call of Duty: Warzone |
|---|---|---|
| Status in the sources reviewed | Shut down | Listed as current on Activision’s Warzone support hub |
| Shutdown date | September 21, 2023 | No future shutdown date announced |
| Progression and inventory | Became inaccessible after shutdown; Activision’s FAQ says there were no plans to relaunch Caldera at the time | Not affected by the Caldera closure, according to Activision and Call of Duty Staff |
| Online servers | Closed with the shutdown | Depends on Activision’s live service status, which must be checked at the time you play |
Timeline of the announcements
- June 22, 2023: Call of Duty Staff announced that Warzone Caldera would shut down on September 21, 2023. The post stated that the current free-to-play Warzone experience would continue and that the closure would not affect its gameplay, inventory, or progression.
- September 21, 2023: Caldera services shut down, as dated in Activision’s Caldera Sunset FAQ (dated 09/21/23).
- September 17 and 25, 2026: Activision’s current Warzone support hub lists a Season 06 article updated September 17, 2026, and a known-issues article updated September 25, 2026. These dates show that the hub still covers the current game. They are not a promise about future operations.

- The Caldera closure: Already happened in September 2023. It ended that version of the game and did not end current Warzone.
- A temporary Activision outage: Online services can go down for a period and come back. Activision’s Online Services page is where a live or known event would appear.
- A platform network problem: PlayStation Network, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam, Epic Games, or Nintendo services can fail independently of Activision.
- A local connection or device problem: Your router, Wi-Fi signal, or console or PC can cause errors that look like a server outage.
Warzone Mobile is a separate product. The sources reviewed for this article do not establish its current status, so this guide covers the console and PC version as listed on Activision’s support hub.
How to check whether Warzone is down right now
- Open Activision Support and go to the Online Services page.
- Select Call of Duty: Warzone and your platform in the checker.
- Refresh the page before you decide. The checker is dynamic, so a result shown earlier may no longer apply.
- If Activision lists a current event or known issue that matches your problem, it is an Activision-side problem and the fix is to wait for an update. Activision also points players to its @ATVIAssist account for updates.
- If the checker shows no event that matches your problem, go to the next section.
If Activision shows the service as online
When Activision’s checker shows no problem but you still cannot connect, work through the failure points in this order. Each step narrows the cause.

- Check the platform network. Look at the status page for your console or launcher, such as PlayStation Network, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam, Epic Games, or Nintendo, depending on where you play.
- Restart the router. Power it off, wait a short time, and power it on again.
- Confirm a strong connection. Use a stable Wi-Fi signal or a wired connection where possible.
- Restart the device. Fully restart your console or PC, not just the game.
- Close bandwidth-heavy apps. Stop downloads, streams, and updates running on the same network.
- Report the problem. If none of the steps above matches, use Activision’s reporting flow so the issue can be reviewed.
These steps can resolve a local fault, but they will not fix an Activision-side outage. If the problem continues after a restart and the platform status is clear, that points toward a connection issue on your end rather than a shutdown.

- Established: Current Warzone is listed on Activision’s support hub, and no future shutdown date has been announced in the official sources reviewed.
- Not established: A live “up” or “down” result. That status changes, so it has to be read from Activision’s Online Services checker at the time you check.
- Not established: Any outage duration, player count, or reliability figure. None was published in the sources reviewed.
A future shutdown is not ruled out in the sense of a permanent guarantee. It is simply not announced in the material reviewed for this article, which was checked on October 8, 2026.
