That is its founding and development-start year—not the same milestone as its later public release, which a secondary history dates to 2006.
Why is Roblox’s start date given as 2004?
Roblox identifies 2004 as its founding year and David Baszucki and Erik Cassel as its founders on its company information page. The company’s SEC filing independently places the start in 2004, saying, “In starting Roblox in 2004, we wanted to replicate the inspiration of imagination and creativity we saw in Interactive Physics on a much grander scale…”
Why do some sources say Roblox began in 2006?
The dates refer to different milestones. A secondary history dates Roblox’s formal release to 2006; that does not conflict with the company’s 2004 founding and start year. The official sources cited here establish the 2004 start but do not confirm an exact public-release date.
What came before Roblox?
Roblox’s SEC filing traces the founders’ inspiration to Interactive Physics. In the company’s account, the story began in 1989, when Baszucki and Cassel programmed a 2D simulated physics lab; the project later influenced the groundwork for Roblox. That is background to Roblox’s creation, not Roblox’s own invention year.
