For the hard Chinook Salmon spot, head to the river northwest of the F.A.N.G. Center in the Whitetail Mountains. The target is to beat the Chinook county record of 27 lb. Far Cry 5 has two other salmon-type hard spots too: Kokanee Salmon at Cedar Lake and Arctic Grayling at a lake west of Elk Jaw Lodge.
Hard salmon spots and record weights
“Salmon” can mean three different fish in Far Cry 5’s fishing challenges. Match the species in your objective to the right area and county record:

How to find each hard spot
Chinook Salmon
Use the river northwest of the F.A.N.G. Center as your main landmark. Another guide describes the Chinook area as a valley in the southwest of Jacob’s region, east of a winding mountain path and Hawkeye Tunnel. These are alternate guide descriptions of the location, not official Ubisoft map coordinates.
Kokanee Salmon
Go to the western part of Cedar Lake and look across from the west bank of its small island.

Arctic Grayling
Look for a lake at the base of the mountain range far west of Elk Jaw Lodge.
What the hard-spot challenge requires
Catch a fish of the relevant species that beats its listed county record. For Chinook, that means more than 27 lb; for Kokanee, more than 6 lb; and for Arctic Grayling, more than 3 lb. Beating the relevant fish records contributes to unlocking the Old Betsy fishing rod.
