Electronic Arts says its battles center on a château. The name is shared with Sweet’s 1973 hit “Ballroom Blitz,” but EA’s official map guide does not say the map was named after the song.
Where the map is set
- Location: near the French city of Varennes.
- Historical frame: the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which took place in late 1918.
- Central feature: a château, which EA describes as the focus of the fighting.
- Edition: Ballroom Blitz ships with the base game, so it does not require a expansion pack purchase.
These details come from Electronic Arts’ map guide, “Ballroom Blitz Map: All You Need to Know.” The guide frames the map’s geography and period, and it is the most direct official source for the question of where the map is from.

How the map is built
EA describes the map as a contrast between tight corridors and open fields, so the same location plays very differently depending on where a squad pushes. The guide lists Conquest, Domination, Rush, Team Deathmatch, War Pigeons, and Frontlines among the playable modes. Use the in-game mode selection screen to confirm which modes are active on the server you are joining, since availability can vary by playlist.
Where the song name comes from
The map and the song share a title, but they are separate things. The map is a World War I setting in Battlefield 1. The song is a 1973 single by the British glam-rock band Sweet, written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn. The map name’s link to the song is a coincidence of title that the official sources do not confirm.

The Scottish gigs behind the song
Ubisoft’s January 26, 2022 article, “The Sweet Chaos of ‘Ballroom Blitz’,” traces the song’s inspiration to the band’s chaotic live shows in Scotland. It reports that Sweet played the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock and later the Apollo in Glasgow in 1973.
The Glasgow Apollo account
The article says Mike Chapman attended the Glasgow performance and was inspired to start writing lyrics for the song. It describes the lyrics as telling the story of that chaotic night at the Apollo. The most commonly repeated version of the origin story stops there, but the same article preserves a qualification from guitarist Andy Scott, who said the song “could have been inspired by all of our Scots gigs.” Glasgow is therefore a reported inspiration, not the only one the source establishes.

What the sources establish and what they do not
- Established by EA: the map is a base-game Battlefield 1 map near Varennes, France, set during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in late 1918, centered on a château.
- Established by Ubisoft’s 2022 article: Sweet’s song is linked to the band’s 1973 Scottish gigs, with Glasgow’s Apollo as the most cited inspiration and Andy Scott’s broader qualification preserved.
- Not established: that EA named the map after Sweet’s song. The map guide does not make that connection, so the shared name should be treated as a coincidence of title rather than a documented design reference.
- Not stated: a chart rank for the song. Official Charts lists the single, but the listing reviewed does not provide a position.
If you are looking for the map, its location and historical setting are settled. If you are looking for the song’s origin, the Scottish gigs are the documented context.
