Hell Andariel is the better choice if you also want a wider spread of other valuable drops. Neither recommendation comes with a verified drop rate, and the Classic answer is still unresolved.
Which Andariel difficulty to pick
| Factor | Nightmare Andariel | Hell Andariel |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | A focused hunt for one Stone of Jordan | Players who want other valuable drops alongside the ring |
| Standing in recent community discussion | Best-supported conventional target, non-Classic only | Reasonable alternative, not shown to be faster overall |
| Other drops | Not stated | Described by community players as offering other desirable drops; not quantified |
| Expected rings per hour compared with the other difficulty | Not stated; no controlled comparison found | Not stated; no controlled comparison found |
| Reported ring odds | Calculator values reported in a recent forum reply (see below) | Not stated |
The practical split is simple. If the ring is the only goal, the community consensus points to Nightmare. If you are gearing a character and the ring is a bonus, Hell gives you more reasons to clear the same boss. Neither recommendation has been shown to produce more Stones of Jordan per hour than the other, so pick based on what else you need.
Reported drop odds and how to read them
A recent forum reply gives Nightmare Andariel ring odds of 1:4636 at one player with 0% Magic Find, and 1:2197 at one player with 200% Magic Find. The reply attributes these values to Maxroll’s drop calculator. These are calculator outputs quoted by a player, not figures published by Blizzard. The ratio between the two values works out to roughly a doubling of the chance with 200% Magic Find, but that is arithmetic on the reported numbers, not a tested result.
If you want to check a figure yourself, record the inputs that change it:
#1 Best Overall
- Diablo II: Resurrected breathes new life into Blizzard Entertainment’s acclaimed ARPG and its expansion, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, from beginning to end. Return to fight for Sanctuary and discover the fate of the mysterious Dark Wanderer rebuilt in all-new 3D graphics, brand-new cinematics, remastered audio… and the same classic Diablo II gameplay you remember.
- Difficulty and boss (Nightmare or Hell Andariel)
- Player count in the game
- Magic Find value on your character and gear
- Game mode (non-Classic, as above)
- Game patch version, and the calculator version you used
Without those inputs, a quoted odds figure cannot be reproduced, so treat it as a rough reference rather than an expected rate.
Heralds and Terror Zones are not the answer
Blizzard’s Season 15 notes describe changes to Herald and Terror Zone encounters, including a lower rate of Herald Unique, Set, and Rare drops. The notes present these as changes to loot routes in general. They do not name Heralds as a Stone of Jordan target and give no ranking for ring farming. If you are already running Terror Zones for other loot, the ring is a side chance; it is not the reason to switch.
Rank #2
Classic mode
The community recommendation for Nightmare Andariel explicitly excludes Classic. No reliable Classic-specific best target was established in the sources reviewed, so do not apply the non-Classic advice to a Classic character or world without checking that it still fits.
Finding a ring is different from using one
Many players confuse the farming question with Uber Diablo, which uses the ring rather than dropping it. Blizzard’s Patch 2.4 notes state:
Rank #3
- Exclusive Red with Black Smoke Marble 2x LP Vinyl Record
“The way that players summon Uber Diablo in Diablo II: Resurrected today will remain the same as it was first introduced in v1.10, by selling Stone of Jordan rings.”
The same notes describe regional progress tracking that is separated by game type. That information matters once you own a ring, but it does not identify a better place to find one.
Rank #4
- The Diablo Prime Evil Collection includes Diablo II: Resurrected, Diablo III, the Reaper of Souls expansion which includes Act V, Adventure Mode and the Crusader class, and the Rise of the Necromancer pack, with the Necromancer class, and additional cosmetic items. This collection also includes the Mephisto pet and the fearsome wings, Hatred’s Grasp, for Diablo III.
Check your version before trusting the advice
Blizzard’s official product page currently describes Diablo II: Resurrected alongside the Reign of the Warlock edition. Because the Season 15 Herald and Terror Zone changes and the Patch 2.4 notes both shift the surrounding farming context, confirm your game version and patch notes before following any farming recommendation, including the ones here.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is still uncertain
- Current exact drop odds across difficulty, player count, Magic Find, mode, and the latest patch have not been independently validated.
- No controlled comparison of expected rings per hour across Nightmare Andariel, Hell Andariel, other bosses, and ordinary monsters was found.
- No evidence establishes one fastest farm across all builds, or whether online and offline map settings change the outcome.
The Nightmare Andariel recommendation is therefore a community-based answer for a focused hunt, not a published Blizzard ranking.
