Could you walk into a store and buy one?
Potentially, but a national announcement was not a stock check. Target’s supply limitation and Best Buy’s limited inventory made availability dependent on the individual location and what remained when a shopper arrived. What the launch sales figure does—and does not—tell you
Nintendo reported that more than 3.5 million units sold through worldwide in the four days after launch. That is a global four-day figure, not a count of US launch-day sales, retailer allocations or consoles available for walk-in shoppers. Nintendo’s launch information
