How much do the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X cost?
The standard ROG Xbox Ally’s U.S. estimated retail price is $599.99, and the ROG Xbox Ally X’s is $999.99. Those launch prices were announced by Xbox and remained on ASUS’s U.S. product pages when checked. Your final total can differ because of sales tax, shipping, retailer discounts, bundles or financing.

These specifications come from Xbox’s official comparison: Xbox handheld specifications. The X’s processor and memory do not guarantee a particular frame rate in every game, but they provide more headroom for demanding PC software. Its 80Wh battery is larger, not a promise of a fixed number of gaming hours; runtime varies with game, brightness, frame rate, power mode, wireless use and Windows activity.
Choose the ROG Xbox Ally when value and weight matter most
- You want to spend $599.99 rather than $999.99.
- You mainly play less demanding PC games, streamed games or Xbox titles.
- 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage are adequate, or you expect to use microSD expansion.
- The lighter 670g chassis is preferable and the larger battery is not essential.
Choose the ROG Xbox Ally X when capacity and connectivity matter most
- You want the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme platform and 24GB of memory.
- You install large games and prefer 1TB internal storage.
- Longer unplugged sessions are important, while accepting that actual runtime depends on settings and software.
- You need USB4-compatible connectivity for a more flexible dock or external-device setup.
- The additional $400 is justified by your workload.

What “Xbox” means on these devices
Neither model is a conventional Xbox console. Each is a Windows 11 handheld PC with Xbox-focused controls and interface features. You can use Xbox PC games, Steam, Epic and other Windows launchers, although individual games may still require their own launchers or account logins.
- Xbox Play Anywhere can carry ownership and progress between Xbox and PC for supported titles.
- Xbox Remote Play requires an Xbox console and a suitable network connection.
- Cloud gaming requires a supported region, connection, device and eligible Game Pass plan.
Game compatibility labels, libraries and subscription benefits can change, so check the current requirements for a particular game.
Ordering checklist: avoid surprises at checkout
- Open the model-specific Microsoft or ASUS page rather than relying on an old preorder article.
- Record the exact status: in stock, ships by a stated date, backordered, out of stock, notify me or marketplace listing.
- Compare the promised delivery date, shipping cost, sales tax and final total.
- Confirm who the seller is. Marketplace sellers can have different warranty and return handling from the retailer itself.
- Read the return window, price-match policy, financing terms and warranty process before completing payment.
- Save the order confirmation and recheck the model number: standard Ally is not Ally X.
ASUS’s eShop states free shipping over $29.99, a 30-day return policy, price matching for identical products during the return period and Affirm financing. Verify those terms at checkout because retailer policies can change.

The standard model’s 512GB SSD can fill quickly with several large PC games; the Ally X’s 1TB drive is more comfortable for a large library. Both support SSD upgrades in Xbox’s specifications, but any replacement should be checked against current ASUS repair guidance and may require technical skill or affect warranty service. Both have UHS-II microSD readers.

Xbox also identifies a ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock, a premium ROG Xbox Ally case and SanDisk cards in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities as compatible accessories. Prices were not established here, so check the linked manufacturer pages before buying.
Should you wait for the ROG Ally X20?
The 2026 ROG Ally X20 is a separate product, not the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X under a new name. ASUS’s U.S. product-family listings include an X20, while reporting describes a 7.4-inch OLED display, 24GB of memory, 1TB storage and an 80Wh battery. A confirmed U.S. price and retail release date were not verified in the available official material.
Check ASUS’s U.S. ROG listings for an official sales page before delaying a purchase. Additional X20 context is available from Windows Central, but its reported pricing and timing should not be treated as confirmed U.S. availability.
The Bottom Line
Buy the ROG Xbox Ally at $599.99 if price, lower weight and mainstream or streamed games are your priorities. Choose the $999.99 ROG Xbox Ally X for its stronger processor, 24GB memory, 1TB storage, 80Wh battery and USB4. Because stock is volatile, use the official Microsoft or ASUS pages, confirm the delivery estimate and check return and warranty terms before ordering.
